This thread was extremely educational. Thanks to all who chimed in. Sorry you got burned Andy, but here's hoping you get your money back somehow.

Oh man, I am really sorry to hear about your day. If I were in your shoes, I'd risk throwing my money away and getting the cops involved. I'd really like to see the shady seller get what he has coming. Who knows, maybe the bike was indeed stolen and the cops can return it to the owner who might give you some cash for returning it?

I understand your decision, your call. But I would have loved for you to have grabbed your cellphone in front of the guy and called the Sheriff's office and had them come down to join in on the confrontation. Can't see them trying anything with you on the phone to the cops. Good luck with everything Andrew. Hope you will get yourself a good KZ without issues and see you back on the fourm.

If I were in the same position, I would write a formal request for your money back. Stating the position the bike was misrepresented and fraudulantly renumbered. I would mention your next steps of pursuing legal avenues to recover the money through the court system and involving the police if your money is not refunded promptly. Small claims courts would cover the amount in this case if you don't get satisfaction. So you shouldn't need to involve an attorney.
Or you could walk away and let a potential thief benefit from their crime.
