hey agawam here and I'm new to this forum hope I can be a good addition to the site I have a bunch of kawasaki's 4 H1s 1 kz650 1 kz 750 twin and one kz700 ,the last is the newest to my collection and don't know much about it, can't find any info, as far as I know it was only made in 84 and most of what I did find say its a shaft drive but I have a chain on mine, haven't riden it yet still putting it back together,The twin is my favorite great cruzin bike, won't win any races but for just a ride it's real nice, the 650sr got robbed(by me) for a bunch of parts for other bikes but could be put back sooner or later, the H1s are great got a 70,74,75 custom and the 76 parts machine, one of them had to be sacrificed. I love the kawasaki its the chevrolet of jap bikes

Welcome agawam! New to the forum and already with a fleet of Kaws! Whew! You may have to teach us something. The Z700 is in fact a weird creature... made for one year, 1984 (like you said) and was specifically manufactured to beat the 750 size embargo that year. You'll note that Honda and Suzuki also produced a 700cc US export bike that year. Don't know about Yamaha. If you can pick up a Kawasaki Heavy Industries shop manual from eBay (they often appear), buy the 750 (fours) manual dated after 1984 and it may include all the info you need on the z700... BUT wait until this is verified by another forum member (my manual only goes until 1983) before you purchase.
