Hello, nospeed2, and WELCOME to KZrider!
Would suggest obtaining new air box hoses and keeping the air box instead of changing to pods.
With new hoses, the carbs are easy to remove and replace.
And the air box has many advantages over pods.
Would also consider keeping the existing jets, at least until the carbs have been properly cleaned, and the bike otherwise fully tuned and test-ridden.
Good Fortune!

Congrats on the find and welcome to the madness!
Ditto on the pods. They look cool and all but they are a hot mess to deal with unless you got the patience of Job.

In the pic, it looks like the air box is still on.
It isn't necessary to remove the air box when replacing the air box hoses (a relatively simple. quick and easy procedure).
And BTW, don't toss that sissy-bar, as it's one of the best versions available.
If unwanted, it will bring a good price.
Some folks still make the mistake of storing a bike under a plastic or other unbreathable cover that allows moisture to accumulate underneath the cover and collect all over the bike keeping the bike perpetually damp.
Good Fortune!

Agreed - the picture shows the airbox on the bike, and you do not need to remove it to work on the carbs. If you replace the airbox-to-carb ducts you will find it easier to remove and replace the carbs, New ducts are soft and much easier to work with. Ed

I picked up a "weathered" 79 LTD a couple weeks ago. Weathered is a polite way of saying ratty. Typical story, it ran when parked. I hope this to be true.
So far I have just cleaned the carbs and waiting for a rebuild kit that I ordered. My plan is to run pods so I need to order them and some larger jets.
Given the "weathered" status of the bike, I will probably just given the bike a good cleaning, change the oil, regrease everything, repair the seat and leave the rest as is. Time will tell.
I had one like that I turned it into this
