New member here. I just picked up a KZ750 on CL. I plan to rebuild it over the winter with my kids. I'll post some pictures soon.

Howdy. There were several 750s in 1980. If unsure of what it is, CycleChaos.com has information on a number of Kawasaki model. If the bike has a 17-digit vin, you can check it at Kawasaki.com.

Probably wont have 17 digits stamped in the neck tube. Wasn't mandated until 81. Maybe the decal on the other side of the neck will have if it is still there.

martin_csr, it's a four-cylinder KZ750E.

I had it checked out by a local shop. Mechanically, all it looks like it needs is to overhaul the carbs (it has sat for 4 years).

The bike has about 20K miles on it and has been unused for the last few years. The previous owner got the big ol' veto stamp of disapproval from his significant other about 4 years ago.

Speaking of the approval of significant others, I'm selling my guitar to fund this little project. For some reason, the wife didn't appreciate raiding the savings for something that's effectively a Christmas present to myself :-\

Welcome aboard! The correct manual can be found on eBay, but first you absolutely must correctly identify your model. There were 3 different KZ750 models in 1980 and they included 2 cylinder and 4 cylinder engines. What is the beginning of the VIN on your frame and how many cylinders does your engine have - the VIN will be stamped at the steering stem neck? Ed

note: some of the wiring diagrams are mislabeled in his links. An 81 Ltd is an H2 & an 82 is an H3.

Hey Dutchroo,

+1 on martin's advice. I had an '82 kz750 ltd, but really liked E model. The on-line manual works well until you can get a hardcopy off e-bay. The pics are a lot clearer on the original manual.

Very nice bike. Looks pretty much stock except for the exhaust and the recovered seat. Four carb kits and you're ready to go! Might want to get some new intake carb boots if they are hard 'cause it will make taking the carbs on and off a lot easier. Take care with the rubber diaphrams on the carbs too. They can be kind of delicate, but need to be checked for tears.

If they're not there, strongly recommend some in-line fuel filters. They'll help keep alot of the crap (but not all) out of your freshened up carbs.

That, plus a lot of Mother's aluminum polish, and you'll be ready for Spring!
