Hello All,
I come in peace. I am restoring a KZ1300 (1979) and feel /hope I can obtain help here.

My favorite rides are currently my 1974 CB750 and 1972 S2, as none of my other Kawasaki's are in restorable condition (I mostly am parting them out via my website).

I have had luck selling things on ebay:
1-prototype of 2006 Honda Goldwing airbag system

:silly:
2-King of Vermont
3-rusty washers,
etc etc and am almost awash in cash.

Hope to be able to contribute my extensive knowledge bank of crash avoidance techniques and valuable insights on when / when not to sue for pain and suffering.

Welcome to KZR!

You might want to update your signature to include your location and a list of the bikes you own. Just 'cause we're all curious, and like to drool over other people's collections and stuff. Click on the "my profile" link at the top here, then click the "forum settings" tab to update your signature.

If you've got too many to list, just mention the ones you work on and/or ride on a regular basis.

If that list is still too long, post some in your signature, and the rest in the classified section. :evil:

EDIT: I almost forgot to mention that the site went through a major redesign recently, and that there's a lot of form content that didn't make the transition. If you're looking for something, don't forget to click the "Archive" button on the right side of the big blue bar at the top of the page. There's tons of stuff there. :)

Maybe you can help me. I also have a 79 1300 and ran into a delema. There were two distinct sizes of rear master cylinders made for these bikes. They are marked on the lower back of the casting. Either they are marked 5/8 or 14. Which do you have and what is the serial # of your bike? I am trying to determine where the difference is so I know what the part # of the correct rebuild piston is for mine.

Perhaps not understanding the question, but Kawasaki.com shows the same part number 43020-1024 for the rear brake master cylinder piston assembly for 1979, 1980, 1981 and 1981 KZ1300 models.

Regarding numbers stamped into the master cylinder castings, the 5/8 refers to a 5/8 inch bore and the 14 refers to a 14mm (aka 1/2 inch) bore, the bore being diameter of the cylinder where the piston operates back and forth.

For example, the single front disc brake Z1 and KZ900 came with a 1/2 inch bore front master cylinder. Later KZ1000 models with dual front discs came with the larger 5/8 inch bore front master cylinder.

A 5/8 bore requires a larger diameter piston than used in the smaller 14mm bore.

Some applications use a 9/16 inch bore brake master cylinder, which falls between the 5/8 and 14mm sizes.

Why not rely on the number stamped into the casting on your existing rear master cylinder -- either 5/8 or 14mm -- and not worry about serial numbers? :unsure: Or simply measure the existing bore?

Seems odd that a parts source would offer two different part numbers for two different size pistons for the same model bike without indicating which is the larger size.
