82 Kz750 twin tank was created by Grgrryan
Hey everyone, I recently picked up an 82 kz750 csr it came with some Suzuki tank on it and I'm looking to replace it with a different, more stock like tank. Anyone know what year tanks will fit the frame? I don't mind a little bit of work to mount it just want to it sit right.

I have a KZ750 twin tank. At least I think that is what it is. Pay for shipping and it's yours. You'll still have the expense of getting a fuel cap for it. Sorry, didn't come with one.

Great deal but maybe a pic of the bottom of the tank will help too.

There you go Steve. This is one of two tanks that came with my KZ900. I was originally planning on using it since it was the better of the two tanks. So I went to the trouble of cleaning the inside with vinegar. But when the time came to mock it on the bike, I learned it wasn't a KZ900 tank. They look similar. If someone can use it for their bike, I would be happy about that. Came close to throwing it away a couple of times, but felt like it is throwing away history. So it continues to sit in my tool room taking up valuable space.

The closest match would be a tank from an 82-84 750-Twin. The 750-CSR tank has a mounting tab near the rear that projects downward towards the frame & that tab fits into a rubber grommet. There's another tab at the rear, which I guess is for lifting the tank. A few years back I inadvertently purchased one of those tanks, but resold it. It's similar in size to the 650-CSR tank, but I did not do a careful comparison. see pic.
KZ650-CSR tank. note: the 650 is a completely different bike. its 3.2 gals. about 20-1/4" long & approx 5-3/4" max between the front mounting tabs. the frame tunnel at its narrowest is about 2-3/8". It might be smaller than the 750-csr.
other tanks similar to the 650-csr are the 750H Ltd. the 750-csr owner's manual or service manual should have the capacity.

I'm glad I kept my spare tank. Readying it for paint now. The paint on the other one is cracking again. What's that center pin for?

No clue what that's for. I'm sure a KZ750 owner can shed some light on it.

Pin probably fits into a rear rubber damper to isolate the tank from the frame and restrict lateral movement.
Am guessing there's also a rubber strap -- not shown in the diagram -- that stretches over the tab to hold down rear of tank.
Good Fortune!
