Hello fellow KZ riders!
I am a recovering Honda owner and Craigslist addict. I started riding last summer on an '83 Honda CB750 Nighthawk that I got for free from a friend who didn't want to do the regular maintenance and was tired of it sitting dead in his basement. I fixed it up (mechanically; I left the shabby cosmetics as they were) and put 3000 miles on it before I spotted a $400 KZ700 with 6500 miles in a yard sale on Craigslist. I'll take a look at any titled motorcycle for $400, but this KZ700 looked stock, fixable, and all around too good to pass up, so I snapped it up (and upset a few late-comers to the yard sale, I might add). I knew before I bought it that it needed a lot of work, and that more problems might crop up as I dug into it. I told myself that if the motor was stuck I would flip it, but otherwise she would be the Nighthawk's replacement.
As you might guess by the fact that I'm here telling this story, she fixed right up, and the Nighthawk is now history -- I hated to see her go but don't have space for 2 bikes in my current living situation. Fixing her up wasn't a walk in the park, but it wasn't that bad either, it just took a month and a half to do working on evenings and weekends. Everything she needed was pretty standard fare, but I think I'll post a thread in the project forum anyway to share the pictures and fun I had working on it.
500 miles including commuting to school and a camping trip so far... and many, many, many more to come.
