Thanks for the in-depth answer. Now you have me curious. I want to see if any CBX's are up for sale and if so how much. I was 19 in 1979 and wanted to buy one just to preserve as an investment. Were they not $3,400 ish?

Yeah, something like that. I know the '81 CBX MSRP was $500 more than the '81 Gold Wing Interstate, until Honda couldn't sell any of them and started discounting the price.

When my new truck loan is paid in full, I'm going to buy another '81, a completely stock one. Mine had to have paint and a complete re-work when I got it; it was really rough. I only paid $500 for it in 1987. It looks nice now (or it did before I had to put it in bad storage for 8 years - divorce - and the roof leaked right onto the bike, so it needs to be re-done again) but I want one in the original silver color scheme now.

My resto "79 model should get appraised at $22,000 when it is done....don't ask what I have into it, though....

2-04 R1, 81 CSR1000, 81 LTD1000, 2-83 GPz1100, 3-79CBX, 81 CBX, 3-XS650, 84 Venture, +parts

First, love your bike, well done. Now we have to find a cream that removes a smile off our faces when we ride our bikes. I could never work out why older riders (pre 60's) loved their bikes so much, now I do.

Yes you are correct 6K was without labour, I did get carried away, -
New exhaust
GPS Speedhut speedo, even 20% off special was around A$430 - BUT well worth it.
I had to buy new dyna coils and ignition - I accidentally blew my spare ignition when a coil failed.
Because its totally rebuilt the rego will be around A$500.

If it wasn't for this I'd be close to my original build figure (without rego)

Lets face it, did you or anyone here really considered counting their time spent, I loved every minute of this build. Unfortunately my leftover spares would be lucky to make a Vespa (with a Z1 motor)...........................hold on now you have me going, can I use my wheelbarrow wheels????????????hem :woohoo: :woohoo: :silly:

First Permanent ride the Z1R since Dec1977 (220,000km) as of June 2015
Second permanent bike 1989 FJ1200 dyno'd 140RWH, great bike.
Third ride is now the Frankenstein 1981 GPZ1100B1, 1983 fully recon motor fitted LOVE THIS BIKE
Forth my work bike FJ1200 1989 (same type as FJ above)

I took her for a spin the night before and she was cutting in and out. Running like crap. Last night after a new set of plugs and she ran flawless. I was pleased with her performance. I thought that removing the header and air pods would greatly reduce her power. Im sure that it did do something but she has enough pep for me.
