Welcome fellow Michigander. Unusual KZ but looks well built. I bet it draws a lot of attention.

Thanks everyone! Well the good is I love this thing, the bad is
1 I ripped the whole rats nest of a wiring harness out ( coils shot explains the leap frog response on road)
2 the paint was barely on there from drying over time
3 resulting in I'm knee deep in an engine pull and top end inspect and rebuild ( will compression test before tearing apart but its sat which is usually BAD !
I bet Im rushing a new fiberglass rear for it by march, painting it before spring. I have found so much on this site from searches already! I am a chopper guy now and a hot rodder in my teens. got a 95 roadking, 79 shovel rigid long bike, and now this fun thing!

After a good power wash, ( still some paint left, this is mid process)the cases are old gray. The top end is clean. Im doing a full tear down and don't know if I'm going to polish the cases or do a chrome powder coat.Jugs up will be clean cast, then polished covers. I got a baldor and I use it ! I really bought this thing for a winter project, and now I am constantly thinking about whats getting done tonight!

Welcome aboard! I see APE cam end plugs. They make some really fun stuff for these old engines, I wonder if there is more inside?

Back in the day I knew guys that painted the motors so they didn't have to clean them and usually it was done with the motor still in the bike.
After all these years it turns out that the paint was a good protector of the actual finish and comes off easy.
If your going to repaint you could use a media blaster to ruff it up but if you are going to keep it bare aluminum I would stay away from anything that moves or changes the original finish, aircraft paint remover works well for this.

Welcome from T.O. Canada.

I have a 1980 Kawasaki KZ750 Ltd. I bought new. I recently managed to get it out of my garage after 28 years and put it on the road again (2010). I feel like a kid all over again. Since I have acquired 3 78 KZ1000 Ltd, 1 1981 KZ1000 Ltd, and another 1980 KZ750 Ltd. Love the LTD's.
