Hey my name is Bryan and I am debating picking up a 1978 kz750 for $400. I suppose I'm mostly here to ask if that seems like a good deal.
That AD says it's not running and that they dont know much about motorcycles.
I realize with a long-running bike its going to be a gamble either way. Odometer says 32000 miles and cosmetically it looks good.
Worth the risk? I may be posting a lot of pictures of me rebuilding it soon if I do pick it up.
Any feedback is appreciated! Glad to have joined the forum!

I suppose it boils down to how much you are comfortable gambling and how much you are willing to spend on the resurrection.
Does it have a clear title?
Is the engine seized?

Post a picture of the bike. If it is all stock you can probably recover your $400 even if it does not run. If it has been painted or modified in other ways you may be taking a gamble. Ed

Heres the best picture of the bike. If I cant turn over the engine with the kickstart then I wont purchase. Could be a small fix or a huge one who knows!
The ad lists it wrong lol.

I'll check for engine seizure as best I can.
The guy said the previous owner of his house abandoned it so there is no title, however I will be getting a signed bill of sale with the VIN to help things go smoother at the DMV.

Definitely check with the DMV in your state. In some states the process is pretty painless, in others it is really difficult. Make sure you get everything they require.
The mufflers are missing. A stock system will be very hard to find, and aftermarket choices are almost nil. MAC had been making one, hopefully they still do, unless you are jonesing to make one from scratch. That seat looks like an expensive aftermarket touring saddle. It is likely a lot more comfortable than the wretched factory seat, but a lot of folks find that style, um, distasteful.
There are a couple of really interesting 750 twin build threads on here that you should probably take a look at.
Like all KZs, the 750 twins are pretty bullet proof, but some parts are getting hard to find. I don't mean to dissuade you, I just want to be sure that you understand what you will be facing if you buy it. There are several enthusiasts here that are more than willing to help you with this resurrection, so if you are really interested, you will not have to go it alone.

I didnt catch the lack of muffler! It looks like there are some used and possibly new options on that front.
I guess what it comes down to is how I feel about it when I'm there. I really appreciate the advice Texas! I'll let you know how it goes either way. I love how 70s bikes look so who knows!

Is that a wad of paper where a carburetor should be?
Looks like there may have been a fairing and hard bags at one time.

Nice catch! Looks like someone has just plugged the intake with some shop towels in there after removing the carbs. Bjscaggles: you may want to ask if the carbs are lying around in a box in the shed somewhere.
