Hi all,

Long time lurker from the Netherlands, as there is a bunch of useful info here.
I bought a modified KZ700 some years ago, that was intended as ELR inspired bike.
Have been (part-time) working since to undo a lot of the mess that was made of it. However i was a student at the time, so nowadays I'm finding myself again replacing budget solution of my previous self.

As a student I bought a used set of panels and tank (with a leak) that was properly resprayed in the past (in a slight metallic green) to replace the existing cheap semi-matt green paint on the bike. Only the old tank is still on there. And I have a color-matched can of paint to respray the tank for now. When the bike is done, I may have it resprayed professionally again as a last step.

Did a top end revision a year ago that decimated the oil consumption it had, so that worked.

Now started on another round of improvements before I take it up to Isle of Man later this spring.
Some of the items on the list:
 - Reopen the engine to fix a base gasket oil leak
 - Pull apart the wiring loom to check everything, maybe add some stuff and considering mounting some dynatek coils as my spark has been weak before.
 - Reconstruct the rear subframe, it was cut off in the past behind the shock mounts. Have a half assed replacement now, needs some extra work.
 - Replace the shocks. Bought cheap RFY shocks as a student. They work, but certainly not perfect and they age fast. So time for something proper.

After that, it should be fine for the next riding season

Had to search a bit, but I found some.

1: First the state as I bought it, with a donor bike.

2&3: The bodywork set i found. Also "stole" the exhaust from the donor bike.

4&5, How i drove it for a while. Found a unused Kerker which is mounted here.
The old fuel tank is back here as the one from the bodywork set started to leak again.

Welcome to KZR! Where did you find the KZ700?  That should be a rare motorcycle in the Netherlands (and Europe).

Not really a spectacular story, just came by on a marketplace. I would've wanted a Z1000 ofcourse, but that was not in my student budget.

Indeed the 700 was (as far as i know) never officially sold in Europe. It was special to the US to circumvent the tarriffs on larger foreign bikes. As did a lot of other japanese manufacturers.

There were a lot of used bikes imported to the Netherlands (and maybe Europe in general) from the US in the past.
My registration also states 1987, but as far as i know, the Z700 was a 1984 only bike.
I guess the registration procedures weren't that thorough back then and it was brought into the Netherlands after 3 years.

It also received a 750cc cylinder bank somewhere in it's life, so it isn't officially a real kz700 anymore.
