Hey everyone, new new newbie here.

last week I bought a 1977 kz200 15k miles and in need of some love. it was stored up by someone long ago until it was picked up by me with no keys or title. bonus was that since there were no keys, folks couldn't muck with it and it stayed in a dormant state with marvel mystery oil in the gas tank, and a very clean engine internals. all the rubber is shot, hoses, tubes etc. glass is broken on headlamp and little bits here and there.

I picked this bike by chance, I was looking for a project bike, but knew I did not have the skills to do a full blown restoration. after looking through many choices of bigger 750's, I realized that small and simple would improve my chances of a successful build.

It will be a super fun first project bike for me. i have mostly been a car guy, and into bicycles (mountain, road, etc) so this is a new fun project for me!

Welcome beekay! I'm looking forward to watching you bring that KZ back to life. There is also a KZ200 forum starting up somewhere (there is a link to it buried (rather recently) on this site). :)

I thought I had one or 2 here already, must have been cleaned up for me...

I am trying to go along with most of the advise gathered from this site when doing a rebuild. it is hard, because I really want to tear it apart and get going with t.
This thing is missing many parts, but not too many. so it does not yet run. first rule is to get it running, and find out what is really wrong with it (before I break something putting it back together).
I took some of it apart, as part of replacing parts that were missing (like keys, coil, condensor, front brake). Replaced the rubber hoses, cleaned out the carb.

Waiting for a bunch of parts to show up from an ebay purchase. got new fork seals sitting here waiting for install this winter.

Plan: get it running, then tear down as much as Ifeel brave enough to do and put it back together again by spring.

Kind of Bike: I don't think this will be a full restoration or even close. I want to put some of my personal touches on the bike, whatever they might be. I do this with my cars, so keeping something totally stock is not part of my make-up. Yet, I do not plan to make a rat rod or a chopper out of this bike either. I am thinking of things with the blinkers, handlebars, lights, i don't know yet. when i get to my other pc,m I will drop some of the pics here.

the overall plan is to use this thread as the bike build blog.

Later!
Bill

So my first batch of goodies showed up from ebay and other various sites around the country. got a proper battery from bikebandits.

Since I had to tear out some things, I painted some brackets, the speedometer case, ignition switch, and a few other bits. I decided to go with flat black for these parts. i think it looks good.
