Saving a '81 KZ750-E

I will be looking in my filler neck. Enough said. I have a target of late summer, early fall for the first test ride. When I count the time to ship the POR15 products here, I have been after this tank for 5 weeks now. The time to get things right never ends up what you think, but the end results are worth it.

24 hours into this soak, so I turned the tank nose up (was vertical, nose down). I couldn't resist peeking inside to see how it's going. At 3 gallons I figured the fluid line is still below the fill neck. It looks like this stuff is doing the trick!

As I pulled the filler neck plug, the tank started out-gassing. I slowly bled off the pressure making sure not to breath. I didn't expect this stuff to produce any gaseous pressure. Interesting...

The inside of the tank looks really clean and rust free, you did very good job Skidmark!!! Now it´s time for the final coating.
May i ask. what brand of phosphoric acid did you use?

Kudos need to be given, once again, to Nessism. His advice through this process so far has been a tremendous help. I tried my own way to clean this tank, and his earlier suggestion turned out to be the one that worked the best. This forum rocks!!

I don’t know its cheaper but I have bought 75% concentration and just reduce it with water.

There's a cheap way to buy Phosphoric acid, all milk companies use about 60% concentration to clean the stainless equipment at the bottling plant {or what ever you call it}, I bought 20 liters of it at 60% and watered it down to 20% , giving me 60 litres of rust converting phosphoric acid, most rust converters that use it are between 12 and 20 percent. Most chemical stores here in Australia stock it for milk scum removal, should be similar over seas.... I didn't need it all for motorcycle tanks either, I use it for car restoration as well, my son and I have 3 older cars we are restoring....{just in case you were wondering}....
