Local bridges

Don't remind me. I look at the 20 year old's bumming around and think of all the time wasted. It's their life and their time. :dry: God, I'm sounding like my parents. Where's my bike? :lol:

...Old age is also about one thing, evolution. We eventually mature, start to think for ourselves and even become respectable adults. Well, most of us, anyway. We end up becoming more and more like our Dad's as time passes. Not a bad thing actually. I can't think of a better person to take after. Can you?

I'm glad for you and others that had a father figure to look up to. Mine lived in a motel all his life while working as a handy man at the ship yards. He never recovered from the divorce and wasn't involved in my or my sister's lives. All I got from him was sarcasm and judgement. Very unhappy man. I had to find guidance elsewhere. I was lucky I had mentors growing up like that Indian guy in the ally and through my working life. It made me independent and do things for myself. When I became a single parent, maybe I over compensated. My daughter is like me in she can figure things out for herself, with a little help of course. My son is a free spirit and will never have children. He takes after his mother, selfish and vane. After I got out of the hospital, I caught him going through my office looking for the savings bonds my mother bought for us. He's not welcome anymore.
I've learned to spot certain characteristics in people. I steer clear of the selfish ones and help the ones that are trying to do it for themselves.
It's more rewarding and less a waste of time. At our age, time is at a premium and not to be wasted.

No, I cannot. I was extremely fortunate to have a truly great Dad. I miss him. Ed

At least one will be saying that about me and the grandchildren too. Makes it all worthwhile some how.

I think I got it from my mother. She worked two jobs raising three of us. I was the oldest. It was my job to make sure the house was clean and the chores done. She was murder with that belt and didn't care where she hit me. Sis loved it and would hang outside with her friends and listen to me wail. I left the house at 17. I never did that to my children.
