The sending unit pictured in the link has an oval base.
Mine have a round bases on both '81 and '82 GPz1100s.
I don't know if this is US market specific or not.

Mine is the same as the Z power one.

Our Z1000J's had different shaped tanks to your J's and are more like gpz tanks. (red bike in my footer) That's why I thought they would be the same. The kawasaki website shows your round type with this part number for the 82 J's.

And the same for a 82 Gpz.
But the Z power and my one has a G on the end of the part number.
But if I Google the part number without the "G" all the results I get are the oval type   the same as mine and Z power.

Thanks for the effort Warren.
I'll keep looking for a stock replacement.
Since modifying an original for another application that someone could use would be a last resort.
Might end up adapting a new unit.

The below might help (there are two different part numbers for a 1982 US GPZ1100) although the bolt pattern looks very similar - the oval may fit the same opening as the round ??

.
I guess it's just the way it's drawn for the picture then that makes the pattern look similar

Not sure how much you want to spend (the below is approx $150) but this might be worth investigating. The site allows me to add the 1018 part number to my cart ??

Doesn't show a picture of it that I can see so can't be sure which it is Guy.
Oval 6 bolt or circular 5 bolt.
Oval 6 bolt is 52005-1018G- euro row
Round 5 bolt is 52005-1018.- us
But........
If you Google the 5 bolt part number all the pictures of stock show the 6 bolt version.
As partssweden is a euro site would bet that's the oval 6 bolt version.

I think the easiest option would be to take the guts out of the readily available 6 bolt version and fit them to the mount  plate of the original 5 bolt version.

Theres very little inside them and I really doubt the two versions have different guts.

I would be inclined to agree with you, on the face of it the 52005 (52005-1018) seems to be the "round" and the 52005A (52005-1026) seems to be the "oval" but "who knows"
