I know this thread is super old, but I am also going to do this conversion on my 1981 KZ750H2 LTD. Current state of the chain is super rusted. I figure might as just do the conversion and know I have a brand new chain drive installed.

Front= 16T
Rear= 38T
Chain=RK GB530XSOZ1-118 (will remove the needed links)

I think you are on the right path.  Hopefully, you have a good chain rivet tool.  I have a cheap china one, and it couldn't cope with pushing the rivets out of a modern chain; the C section bent.  You might want to grind off the chain rivet head before trying to break the chain come shortening time.

Looks about right for the 530. Did the conversion several years ago. I remember the chain was RK X ring. Maybe even same part #

I never could understand why anyone would want to downgrade from a 630. 630 lasts longer, is stronger. I guess the extra 1/2hp or 1/2lb weight savings?

321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.

Because my 630 chain is more than 20 years old and some o-rings are going brittle.
So it´s time to go with new optimised parts and faulty safe equiment to expant my life time to be together with my girl!!!

I don´t want to play Russian Rulette. It´s only for safty reassons!
Now you know the reasson why it´s worth to me......

Nope.

530 will last longer.  It spreads the load on the sprockets over more teeth and rollers, and the teeth are just as wide as 630.  Not to mention, 630 chains are virtually obsolete in the bike world these days, and most, if not all, 630 chains available are lower end O-ring type.  The highest grade X-ring chains are only offered in the 5xx sizes these days.  And 530 seems headed to obsolete land also.
