kz750 swinging arm - will it fit a kz440ltd frame?

I know - silly question right?  I currently have a KZ440 Ltd but I hate the rear drum brake and I was wondering if the KZ750 swinging arm fits so I can change from Drum to Disk rear brake.

I can't afford a whole KZ750 at the moment - but can afford spare bits....

if someone knows the width of the pivot tube I would appreciate it

Maybe the setup from a KZ550 or KZ650 might be an easier fit?  Don't forget you'll have to add (weld) a bracket to your frame, and probably change the brake pedal. 

What's wrong w the drum brake. most of the stopping power is at the front. I'd look into a dual disk before bothering w a the rear.  It's doubtful that a 750-4 swing arm will fit, nor a 650. a 550 would be a closer match.

I like the drum brake. The front takes a few revolutions to grab when it rains or just gets wet. The drum always works. When I switched to mags I looked for a rear drum brake. My Lester's had it but now I have tubeless in the rear with the KZ750G rims. PITA to change tires until I got a bead braker and now I don't have to deal with rim locks. All around a much better setup.

I wonder if a 750 twin swingarm is narrower at the pivot than the four cylinder version?

Also keep in mind that the pivot bolt is likely larger diameter on the larger displacement bikes, so a 550 may be more likely to fit.

Well to answer all your questions -
Why get rid of the drum brake?  I hate the look, I prefer the cleaner lines of a disk then of a big chunk of cast steel.
Im looking to add forward controls, so setting up a disk brake with the fwd controls would be easier than running a rod to the rear brake or to the pivot of the existing brake pedal
I'm just wondering why I would have to weld a bracket to the frame?  The swingarm i've seen has the disk caliper link rod on it, so that takes care of the security of the caliper.
I was looking at the 750 twin swingarm, not the 4 pot - but understand where you are coming from with the 550 ltd swingarm even though that is a 4 pot as well, as the width may be around the same.

KZ400 and KZ440 are a direct swap, KZ440 being longer.
Kz550 is wider, but not by much. I narrowed one down for my KZ400.
This also upgraded the KZ400 swing arm bushings to KZ550 double roller bearings.
KZ650/750 are wider yet.

You'll have to weld a bracket of some sort to the frame rail above the pedal pivot point to mount the master cylinder for your rear brake.  Make it the same relationship between parts as the donor setup - correct brake operation is kind of important when a car turns left in front of you.

im going with forward controls so the machined bracket for them will have the mounting point for the master cylinder- but your point is valid - there are all sorts of muppets on the road that being able to stop away from is kind of a must 😉

Just a FYI but a GPZ550 swing arm is almost identical to the KZ650 swing arm and fits the 650 frame without any mods. The KZ750-4 swing arm is longer than a KZ650 swing arm by at least 1 inch (not exactly sure on measurement)
