That's a great song and used to get lots of play here in Canada. Less so now. The "Highway of Heroes" is the stretch of Hwy 401 between Trenton, Ontario and Toronto, Ontario. There is a base in Trenton where our fallen comrades would be flown into before being transported down the 401. It quickly became customary to line that highway with thousands of people for every fallen soldier returning home.

It's pathetic that some people can't keep their lame political thoughts to themselves even on a thread like this.

Remember that Hitler invaded Norway.  KZRider was founded by a Norwegian.
A number of my close relatives served in WWII.  One was a Navy officer & another was a Seabee.  The others were regular Army.  All of them saw battle but amazingly none were killed.  But one for certain upon his return suffered from battle fatigue, what we now call PTSD.   Four of them were brothers in one town:  the local judge who oversaw the local draft board sent all four off to war but none of his own sons who were of typical draft age and none of his sons volunteered.   My oldest brother was declined for service near the end of the Vietnam war by the military for medical reasons:  his was a real medical diagnosis by the US military.  He didn't receive a fake diagnosis as a favor from a doctor who rented office space from his father.

Remember:  Hitler had a failed coup attempt.  Hitler never won a majority of votes.  Hitler's Nazi playbook was to accuse the others of that for which you are guilty.  Hitler's Nazi playbook also said to lie and lie again and keep lying until the masses don't know what the truth is.  Sounds all too familiar.

YOU'RE RIGHT  BUT BY USING THE SAME TACTICS YOU'VE RENDERED YOUR POINT MOOT

My uncle fought in Normandy and was in the hedge rows of the Falaise Gap. The combined forces of American, British, and Canadian troops encircled the German soldiers and all but decimated the Germans. Quite the story of the heroism of our greatest generation.

Stand for the flag, kneel for the fallen!

I got a cool piece from Clinton/Tecumseh. Its a hardbound book with ww1-ww2 Veterans.I have 5 family members from my mothers side and 4 from my fathers side in the book ( 2 of them made it back out of em all). I traded a M1 carbine (circa 1980s) not an original) for it at a gun show about 10 years ago.I will bring it to the Lake. Coolest pic is a great uncle next to a carousel of Garands in the armory.I will dig it out of the safe. Im wondering if it was a State or maybe U.S. wide thing? It would be great to link up if there is more.I will look into that this winter cause I'm swamped till then. Those beach landing pictures hurt my gut. If you read into the landings....woof, Brave,Brave Men!

The uncle I mention was on my mother’s side. My dad and his brother both served in the navy in the Pacific theater. I have at least one book from my dads brother. It’s like a mission journal. The government printed them. They remind me of school graduation books. They are full of highlights from that specific tour of duty. They list the ship involved, the crew, and the tour specifications. Cool stuff. We were lucky and all of my family members returned.

I agree with Brad,
if you have ever seen footage of the Normandy landings you can’t but be in aww of the Brave, Brave Men. Remember thought most were still boys, that had boots full of vomit, not just theirs but others that were sea sick from being in the LCT.’s circling in the bay waiting their turn to in the barrel.

Cool Dave. I have a few pictures of my dad and uncle together. Somehow randomly they meet up while in the Philippines, the smiles on their faces is true joy. Could you imagine that by chance meeting.
