Steve's Turbo KZ650

A few updates,
Most of the wiring is reinstalled. I'm going to replace the stock speedo and indicator lights with a KOSO db-02r and then I can finish up the wiring.
Turn signals and mirrors have been painted satin black fine texture
I made some port flange adapters for the carb manifolds. The adapters fit inside the kz1000 34mm carb manifolds. I blended in the ports on the head to the  large carb manifolds-

The finished adapters, Item on the right is a punch I made to cut the gaskets for the flanges.




The fuel system , It's about 95% right now.
A fuel shut valve is located just under the modified stock tank petcock. I just need to plumb in the return line from the regulator and line & filter from tank to the pump.

The adapters are needed to mate the 34mm kz1000 manifolds to the small port 650 heads. The ID of the rubber manifolds is just about as large as the OD of the runner on the head. I did what I could so the inlet path beginning at the plenum box to the head is a fairly nice taper with no sudden steps. I'm hoping throttle response off boost won't be to lazy.

I also enjoy machining and cnc as a hobby.
My SB9 was a basket case when I got it and was ready to be scrapped. The cast iron journals in the headstock were badly scored. I line bored the headstock journals oversize and then made bronze sleeves for it. I used the carriage to move the line bore rig so the new journals would be bored true to the ways. The bed is worn but this old lathe still cuts to .0004" over 6".

I started installing the dyna2000 kit tonight. It really is a nice ign system IMO. Good instructions and everything down to shrink wrap is provided in the kit.

Well I bought the mill new for around $900, A 4axis kit for 350$, Some ballscrew and nuts around $150-200 or so. Add in a few timing pulleys and belts for another $75 or so. I made all the mounts and bearing blocks myself. I think the above is a pretty good estimate.
It would be more if one had no material and hardware laying around but there's not much invested in the mounts and bearing blocks. I did not use angular contact bearings, I used a combo of deep groove and thrust bearings. Backlash is around .001" on the table axis.
I had a old pc laying around to run Mach3 with.
I already had a Mach3 license and cam software from a earlier mill I cnc'd.
It's been a very reliable machine. I think I cnc'd the mill around 5 years ago.

your little cnc machine's are perfect for building little trick custom pieces.
i have dreams about little machines like those working for me while i sleep :laugh:.
one of a kind one off pieces that could be duplicated exactly.(which would remove the exclusivity :dry: BUT ) :evil:

Yep it's a good little mill for small parts. It's work envelope should handle most things I'll want to make for the bike. I used it to make the plenum box. That was probably the largest thing I have used the mill for. It hogged out the 2"deep X 2.25" x 11" cavity from a hunk of 6061. I used this 2" reach 3 fluter-
Took a few hours to cut.

I installed the rest of the dyna2000 this afternoon. Wiring is my least favorite part of hotrodding anything but it has to be done.
I just need to time it and I can move on to the scavenge pump.
I don't suppose anybody has pics of a stock oilpump with the rotors out? I would like to see how the inlet and outlet ports are configured..
