Truedisk in Michigan will resurface and drill rotors. His pricing is very reasonable

Thanks Mikaw but..Unfortunately the whole Atlantic Ocean thing is a problem there and Brexit has screwed us Irish over even more now too both on goods and services. The reality in Ireland right now is if you want something done and there isnt a  bloke down the road doin it ye gotta do it yerself.

I've did a few, separated the rivets! Some are bastards! aluminum & steel fused together.
I use a professional friend's business with Blanchard machine. For precision grinding.
I've downsized 7mm down to 5 mm.
I'm working on a set of Z1 / H2 6 bolt disc's currently. one was drilled, so I used that for a template with 1/4" holes.
And way back, I ruined a set of OEM Z1R front disc's on purpose! I countersunk the 4 mounting bolt holes to 45° so I could use flat head machine screws. To match that theme. This thing is still sitting.

Would this saturation of hole destroy pads? Love the look but not if it goes through pads faster than a fat kid through chocolate.

Well I’m that lucky guy that has a guy! Truedisk is only 20 minutes drive for me. If there is anything I can help you with shipping I’d be more than willing to help.

Thanks mate i appreciate that, things are getting harder and harder over here to source parts and anyone like your guys just dont exist over here. There is not one place in Ireland that does chrome for private customers, everything has to go through the UK. Ireland just didnt have a bike scene for years and by then it was a very very small scene. Bikes and parts are at a premium here and if you can snag a deal like i did with this bike, the Phoenix from Jon and the GPz's from Scirocco you jump at it even if it means eating porridge for a couple of weeks....

Didnt get a chance to finish the Z1b carbs today but the pics will show how far they came from being on a trash pile in Irish weather to where they are now, ill finish them up in the next week but all slide bodies and internals are as perfect now as they can be. A lot of pitting and thats why i used the semi text caliper powder coating, its fairly bullet proof and kinda... covers the oxidation marks. I know painted carbs is not everyones taste but in this case there was not much else i could do for the state of them before.

With all of this talk about the Z1R hole pattern, I thought I'd mention one downside.  The rotor surface can become scalloped over time due to the different amount of material left after drilling to holes.  There are a few thin strips between each row of holes where the pad never passes over a hole, this is the highest spot as it has the most material.  The center radius of each ring of holes is the low spot, with the least disk surface remaining.  It might make sense to come up with a pattern where the amount of disk remaining at any given radius is constant.  Or at least less regular than the Z1R pattern.

The speedo on my bike reads 45k miles.  I'm assuming that's how many miles are on these rotors.

The last photo is after they came back from Truedisk.  I can't recommend that place enough.  The workmanship is top notch.

I didn't use a pattern, as I said further up the page, I used a degree wheel, mounted it to the disc in the centre with a quickly made bracket that held it in the middle of the disc , I literally bolted the degree wheel to the disc,  blued the disc first so I could see my marks, measured accurately between the degree wheel and the disc to centre it, Tightened it up,  then made a mark every 10 degrees as there is 36 rows of holes on a Z1R disc, I removed the degree wheel then  used a steel ruler to lightly scribe the lines at the 10 degree intervals, I then used a set of verniers to lightly scribe in the 5 lines for the holes, where the lines intersected I centre punched every mark, being careful to keep the three two three pattern correct and then used the 3mm cobalt drill to drill the first set of holes, then swapped to the 8mm bit, it worked out well and was relatively quick to mark out. I used this process on all 3 discs, although I only used the 3mm bit on the rear, so I only had to drill one set of holes on that one.

I recently put a set of Z650 discs in the lathe and used some of that red material based sand paper around a small wood block to clean them up a bit, It took a lot of small marks off the discs, you might try that with yours first...

Wolf Mother were relatively popular here, I'm an old metal head/guitarist, I like a bit more grunt in my music....

Yep clever way of  figuring the problem and i get what you did in laying the holes out, the pattern im looking to reproduce is that thats on the rear and it seems to be a sweeping pattern of 4 holes in a curve. Thats way to much for me to get my head around doing it by scribing...im 100% sure i would screw that up, better leave nothing to chance. Computer aided drawing is a chunk of what i do so ill lay it out in a fractional program and go from there. Funny as I was typing the last message out this came in the post and i had forgotten about it completely, it took 4 months for it to get here from japan... Weird.

Yep, a sweep pattern would require a few more lines i'd say..!!, I'd probably attempt it for the challenge....   Japan post is all over the place at the moment, EMS isn't servicing overseas at the moment so DHL and others have taken up the slack and are more expensive too. I have a couple of boxes of parts from Webike that came a couple of months back, I ordered them before Christmas.    I have the moriwaki cover for my GPZ750 as well, I'm actually attempting to build a tribute to Wayne Gardner's Moriwaki monster from 1981, only using the 750 instead of the 1000 Moriwaki used....
Nice work on the carbs, they were looking decidedly second hand there for a while...!!!

That's interesting, I've seen a ton of rotors over the years with similar hole patterns to the Z1R, even the Z1R discs I borrowed to look at the hole pattern were old and worn, but nothing like that.  That style pattern was popular in the late 70's, early 80's, I had that pattern on a couple of Honda 4"s back then with no problems, high mile bikes too.   I have seen wear like that caused by pads though. I recently threw an almost full pad set away because they were wearing grooves like that into the discs on my sons KZ650, Ichanged to an EBC sintered pad set and the problems gone.  I'd be curious to know what your pads looked like, the pads I threw out had visible lines in them where the harder material was more concentrated in sections, it matched where the excessive wear was on the discs..

Ha thanks, there is alot of parts that were balancing on the brink of junk but i will be trying to get them back to a workable state again, i got 2 extra heads and barrels that came with the bike lot, most are in a bad way, set of cams that are way past a second life. Yea i go with the sea option with webike mostly because in the last 4 orders iv gotten away without paying duty on them so why fix if it if it aint broke, plus mostly things im not actually in a hurry for. That bike will look sweet, will you do all the performance upgrades too? here are the top ends i inherited. Ill send them off to be vapor blasted and see what happens from there, better to take the hit in the pocket to see what condition they are in.
