I wonder if those cams were cleaned up a bit, if they would be good enough for a hard weld and regrind? I suppose it would depend on the bearing surfaces.

Got home and straight on the media blaster with  fine Aluminum Oxide Abrasive 240 and a soft polish and this is what i have left, thats the worst cam and worst side, i think Texas my friend they are goosed.... It just boils me that someone would let these rare enough parts go to shite.

The real question is how far down can the surface of the kz1000 head be resurfaced that still makes it a usable head?  this would go on a 1976 kz900 with standard bore if it was to go on anything. It kinda was a freebe so i dont mind shelling a few quid to make it right if i can save it.

May have well been, unfortunately West Ireland is under water 8 months out of 12 and it rains the other 4.... leaving a bike out in that salt rich environment is a death sentence, imagine tying a bike to the front of an Atlantic oil tanker.....

Ah you know my pain so! out of the boxs i got there are so may period parts just ruined, hard to find OEM parts just beyond saving, maybe about 25% are rusted scrap. Im off today and im going to see if i have the makings of a bike, what i will need to build it to road ready and whats left can it be saved..

So today i did a mock up of all the parts that are not total scrap and a few of what i had lying around and i think i have about 85% of a bike here that i can use. Priority buys are new for tubes, far-side side cover, exhaust can, headlight, seat cover, hand switches, piston rings and rebuild kits for everything and i mean everything and even more smaller things on that list i wont bother to mention. Its a good thing im owed a bunch of sand blasting and powder coating Hrs cause the list is long. Even in this shocking state i can still see the bike she will be.

I just cut a set of rear hangers off. They were pretty bad as well but I could check to see if at least one side isn't rusted through - then you may be able weld the good side of mine over the outside of yours... or chop out what you need and do some patchworking.
