Yes with that nondescript thing we are standing on, I had no idea they were going to blow it up, I would have been there :pinch:
They have another one on the chopping block in Utica IL next year sometime, I won't miss that one .

This thread is good stuff. I'm somewhat of a bridge aficionado myself and for a second there at the beginning, I thought I was in Vermont. No better way to be able to stop easily, pull over, and snap some pics unless it's by either riding a bicycle or walking. I enjoyed the thread and agree that traveling, seeing and appreciating the things that are around us that some take for granted is one of my favorite aspects of being in s cycle. Thanks for keeping this alive otherwise I'd not have seen it.

My wife works for a physical therapy company (that shall remain nameless) and she was talking to a patient about the bridge coming down.
He happens to live in Spring Valley and as a surprise gift he grabbed this bolt out of the rubble for her , very cool IMO

We lost this one earlier this year, It was one of those steel grate types that give you that squirrely steering as you look 60 + feet down with low railings to boot.
86 years old , over the Mississippi in Savanna IL. Dam shame..

Always hated those things and especially when wet. Glad they are going away. Best thing to do was exactly the opposite of what you did instinctively. Lighten your grip on the bars.

I'll be heading into Brattleboro VT, tomorrow sometime and there is a newly erected bridge there that is an engineering feat par excellence.

I'll post a pic of two. I won't even try to explain it until you see it. It's so beautiful.

Had to look it up , you are across the pond, Light houses are awesome!
I watched something on the Belle Tout lighthouse ( I think) a while back and how it was moved back to keep it from falling into the sea, great job :)
Thanks for posting
We have a few around Lake Michigan that are on our bucket list to visit.

We went back down to Peoria IL for the annual Blues and Heritage Fest , unfortunately I pussed out on riding down because of a big chance of rain that never happened :pinch: We did get rained on Sunday and Monday though
Caught a lot of great music, the best show that day in our opinion was Shooter Jennings, they were fantastic.

The festival and bridge is across the river above my foot.

We had a visit last weekend from the worlds largest steamboat, The American Queen, www.mywebtimes.com/lists/2018/09/12/9b2f...8ae/index.xml?page=1
It was diverted from the Mississippi river to the Illinois river due to high waters , she could only go as far as Ottawa IL , I don't think she would fit under the steel bridge.
Beautiful boat
