Hi Wookie Thank you so much for the info I will get one orderd I see what you mean by the seperate field coils needing to be energised, Electricts drive me mad! the reason I am changing it is because I have only had the bike a couple of weeks and when I went to start it for the first time the fuse was blown, there is only one! any Subsequent fuses also blew, after 2 days with a meter I could not find any shorts the harness all looked good with no frayed or bare cables, with all the wiring plugs disconnected it was only with the regulator and the rectifier plugged in does the fuse blow when the ignition is turned on, the fuse only blew with the ignition on, I checked the 3 yellow wires to the alternator and there is continuity and no shorts, the same with the black and brown wires to the separate alternator field coil I know electrical problems are rarely visual but the only damage on the loom is the connectors to the mechanical regulator are a bit burnt and the insulation is melted so I am hoping replacing the regulator rectifier will cure my problems and will be able to start the bike, thank you again for the help, I will let you know how I get on, that regulator looks plug and play

Below is the wiring diagram for the replacement combined reg/rec - The field coil is the green wire so worth checking that isn't shorted out

I have just put a meter on the green wire and there is conductivity to earth its not a dead short its about 4 ohm's, I suppose that means thas toast as well

04 Mar 2025 04:30It should have continuity between the black and green wires of the field coil with the wires disconnected from the RR (check manual for resistance spec) if there is continuity between the green wire and ground (with the black wire disconnected) then it is faultyI have just put a meter on the green wire and there is conductivity to earth its not a dead short its about 4 ohm's, I suppose that means thas toast as well

Ok so the saga continues, Between the green wire and ground with the black wire disconnected there is no Continuity, open circuit between the green and black if I am using my meter properly, set on the 20 scale it reads 004.3 Ohms, I have a PDF of a factory manual, and it says the resistance across these wires should be 4.8 Ohms less than this indicates a short in the coil.

Thats brilliant so the stator should be ok then which is just as well as I cannot find one for sale, I will order that regulator rectifier to be continued once it arrives
