'78 KZ1000 makeover

So after cutting out the "groove" part of the mounts from the same sheet I cut the tube caps, I tacked those into place and drilled a 5/16" hole through the new joint. I rummeged around for a bolt and nut and threw in the first one I found.

After having thought about this joint for the last hour, I'm inclined to remove it in favor of a stronger design. I was going to box in the top of the tabs, which would help strength signifigantly.....But now I'm thinking I would rather move the 3/8" bracket over, and weld a matching 3/8" bracket to the subframe on the inside of the frame bracket. Then thread the subframe bracket for the 5/16" bolt. Nice and clean, simple, strong. Yeah, I think I'll do that

The subframe is now removable. Ultimately I'll end up experimenting with a carbon subframe. For now though the stock one modified will do nicely

OK, I'm going to put it to a vote. The tongue n' groove joint on the left.....the lap loint on the right. Which is better and why?

now just cause the other hybrid guys are wadding bikes up and getting bruises...does not mean you will need to young man

how about a piece of boxed tubing with the bottem cut out and beveled to match frame down tube ?

or how about sleeving it with a slightly larger piece of rd tubing with the bottem opened and sides straightened along bottem and end beveled to match frame downtube?
you could even take a piece of 12ga and wrap it around the existing tubing to acomplish the same affect easier
