OK, I'm going to put it to a vote. The tongue n' groove joint on the left.....the lap loint on the right. Which is better and why?

Of these two I would vote for the one on the right. The thicker plates will distribute the load over a larger surface area on the bolt. I could see those thinner side plates cutting into the bolt over time due to vibration. Obviously use grade 8 or 12.9 metric bolts, and I would like to see loctite, or lock washers, or safety wired. Unless you want an ejector seat.

All 4 of the subframe bolts will be safety wired ;) The subframe bolts on my YZF all have lock nuts, so it's kinda important those bolts stay put

I figured that you if anyone would know of the dangers of self loosening fasteners. You ought to see what fanatics the NASA boys are about fasteners.

my vote is for one triangle shaped piece that slides inside a clevis.like this one

perhaps :) .
simple clean, all the weight is in shear.so it is strong and lite.

Very nice idea Leon. The biggest problem I have is the lack of room. I could make more room, but at the expense of having to mod/relocate 2 more sidecover mounts :S At this point I think I'll leave it alone with the 3/8" brackets until I can get the bike back together and running. After the bike is whole and running, it'll be side project #2 to design and fabricate a carbon subframe. Side project #1 is to collaborate with OMR and make a hand bent stainless header. I haven't told him yet though, so you guys need to keep it a secret until I can take him to dinner and pop the question :silly: I'm pretty sure he doesn't read any of my threads, so he shoulnd't learn of my plot any time soon.

I should have saved the carbon body work as a side project after I got the bike back together, but I'm having too much fun being broke and learning :woohoo:
Those tubing ends and clevis pins would be perfect though ;)
