Good idea, especially after seeing how slow you drove in that "boot" vid you posted! :pinch:
If you were to leave right now, AND step your pace up considerably, you just might be able to catch up to us somewhere in the middle of our ride on the 23rd.

Good idea about the Events Calendar, JoeK.
We need to get the meeting time/place firmed up. If we can find a restaurant that we can meet up at, then the early arrivals can do breakfast while we're waiting to go.
KZJohn:
What time do you think we need to start, to get to BigBear Lake by lunchtime?

BUMP!
We need someone (KZJohn?) to finalize the meeting place and time.
The date is Saturday, June 23, and the approximate meeting place is the Wrightwood exit at Interstate 215.

Dang bud, sorry to hear that.
I don't know weather to feel more sorry for you having to spend time in Cali bikeless, or for having to spend that time in Victorville. :pinch:
Danged near every portion of paved road up there is chock-full of potholes and covered with sand/dirt.
How long you going to be out here for?
If I had another KZ, I'd gladly loan it to you for the ride.
I know it wouldn't be quite the same, but you're more than welcome to drive clean-up in your cage - the roads and scenery in Big Bear are outstanding this time of year!

With Steins info and help, I figured out how to post this ride to the events calendar.
So Calif KZ group ride
The features of the new "Events-test" calendar are really nice!
It not only covers specifics such as time, date, destination/address of events, but also permits members to register/unregister to events so a head-count can be gathered.
Heck, there's even a "Show Location Map" link that pops up a Google map to show folks where the event is at.
How cool is that! :woohoo:

I could be wrong but I believe this article in this mornings paper affects our SoCal ride. st"A three mile stretch of Highway 138 will close today and remain closed until next fall as Caltrans works on widening the highway. The closure is roughly between Interstate I15 and Highway 2, from just east of Hihway 2 to just west of Hess Road. It will last until September 11." Isn't this the area where we are coming down off the mountain??

As for the meeting area and time I was thinking 10am. That should give everyone a chance to get there and not have to get up at " OH MY GOD 30" in the morning. On the east side of the 215 and the Wrightwood/138 exit there are some gas stations and fast food joints. There should be plenty of room to park your rigs if you want to truck in. I think there is a Denny's type resturant on the west side of the offramp. Let me check that out and if it's so then if anyone wants to show early for breakfast that would be do-able. I will post later this week about the resturant.
That closure won't affect the ride, however it will be a pain in ltdrider's butt as that is the most direct way for him to get to the meeting area.I could be wrong but I believe this article in this mornings paper affects our SoCal ride. st"A three mile stretch of Highway 138 will close today and remain closed until next fall as Caltrans works on widening the highway. Re: Another SoCal ride
11 Jun 2007 23:48
Fellow Californians,
I have a question somewhat related to soCal riding.
I am moving from the Bay Area back to LA this summer. There is no way i am selling or leaving my KZ behind.
My question is: "Has anyone here done SF-LA ride? i assume you take 101 south, which i've done with a car (took ~5 hours, but i was speeding). How long would it take time-wise on a KZ650 and what would it take health-wise for my bike and myself?"
The clubman bars aren't the best for extensive traveling, for instance.
If i do end up partaking in this adventure, what should i check in terms of my bike before i take off? Is this crazy or doable?
Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated!
P.S. I will not take the 5 freeway, for it is a boring straight line, even though it takes less time.
