Thoughts on a '91 Zephyr 750?

 This bike is available near me (about 1.5 hours away). 1991 model with some original paperwork and only 6600 miles. Been in a warehouse for 8 or 9 years. He says it runs on a jump box and old gas. Has a title.
 I've done a bunch of old bikes, so I know what's ahead of me: all fluids, nearly all rubber bits, brakes, forks, tires, carbs, etc. The surface rust and cosmetics don't really bother me. That's all just elbow grease.
 Are parts available? Brake rebuild stuff, intake and air box rubbers, etc.?

 Asking price is $1400. With the work it needs, I'd like to be in for around half that. Thoughts? Opinions?

The Zephyr is a modern motorcycles, not classic like Z1 or CB750.
Make a list of the parts you need and search on ebay.
What is your motivation ?
$600 or $1200 makes no difference in comparison to work ahead.
 

Looks like a great project as a rider.  I don't think it's a great flip project, though.

What is a clean ready to go example worth in your part of the world ?

I would love to have it! I've always wanted a big Zephyr....

That said, I bought a dune buggy about a year and a half ago. At this point that was the cheapest part of the project!     

 Not looking at it as a flip, at least not until I've ridden it for a few years.
 I've always liked the classic looks, it's a semi-modern bike, and I can envision it with the retro candy brown/orange paint job and a nice exhaust, just as a rider.

Sounds like you have already convinced yourself   your vision sounds like something I look forward to following the progress of  (if you buy it  )

 You gotta admit....they can be made into a pretty sweet ride.

 

It looks like a good project bike. I like that they stuck pretty close to the original style unlike some of the other retro cars and bikes. As a straight flip there's probably not a lot of profit but if you are like us and resurrect it to ride and enjoy it's a good deal. In a few years it will appreciate and you won't lose if you decide to sell it.
My buddy and I have 12 bikes. Eight of them we resurrected but we don't do it to make money. We have flipped a few bikes and done well but the main point is to have fun and share the bikes with friends.

Very, very few of the bikes I've built were done just to flip them. I used to like a project, but got burnt out for a while.
 I guess I'm getting the itch again.
 Usually, I'll take on a project for fun, ride it for a while.....until the garage gets full or it pisses me off for some reason....and sell it to make room (and funds) for the next one.

 I know there will probably be some aggravating moments with this one, but I'm seriously thinking about taking it on.
