Thoughts on a '91 Zephyr 750?

I'd jump right on it. As others have said, certainly not a flip, but if you want to restore and ride it, I think it's a very solid foundation and a very cool bike.

There is a spoke wheeled version of it over here, which makes it a bit rare going for about 7450 of your $$$ a wee bit on the high side but they are fetching not far off 3500 for a clean bike.

I reckon a pair of YSS shocks and put the footrest hangers on a diet and that would be sweet 

 

If the tank is not rotted out in the bottom jump on it, they are a really good bike and the best of the Zephyr's, I've had two.

For sure, its stock like this as far as i know, correct me if im wrong but the last year of production they did a few in the Z1 colours with he spoke wheels. Iv been lusting after its older brother for a while, every time one comes up here something just is in my way of getting it or i miss out, the spoke wheel version will easy pull 6000 bucks over here and it comes in the Z1b colours both blue and red.

I adore my Zephyr 550, and the 750 is it’s big brother. That being said….
because they were only sold in the US for two years, finding certain parts can be impossible/expensive to source. They sold in the European markets for years and years, so parts can be found, but shipping is expensive. 
The fuel tanks on Zephyrs are notorious for rust and Zephyr tanks are insanely rare. Like stupid rare. So depending on the condition (and potential for repair) you will need to buy a reproduction tank from Webike.Japan. They are expensive.
This will probably be true of any of the cosmetic parts on the bike. Lots of reproductions, but all from Japan. 
(They even sell an entire body kit to make it look like a kz1000 mkII!!)

The forks on that bike I think are a weird diameter. (They are on the 550 at least) so sourcing new fork tubes may be difficult. I bought reproduction forks for mine, and they were unusable junk. 
 
The cylinder heads are special to the Zephyr 750. Just the cosmetic design. (They are not higher in horsepower)
Everything in the head is standard 750 and any kz/gpz head will bolt on if it’s damaged. The rest of the inside of the motor is also identical to the kz/gpz. 

The gauges are specific as well, but I think replicas are plentiful. 

Carbs were used on hundreds of Kawasakis, so parts are simple to find. 

Depending how solid/neglected it is, it could be a great purchase. 
 
 

For what it's worth, I love my 750E.  It's basically a bored out 650 with some upgraded bits.  Way lighter than other 750's of the era.  I think there is a reason that Kawasaki kept reincarnating these bikes all the way into the 21 century with the ZR-7; because they are a great balance of power, handling, and usability.   A Zephyr is basically a restomod of the early 750s, like mine.  I'd love to have one.

The Doremi mkII body kit is the entire reason I searched and searched for a Zephyr 750 to buy. 
 
 

A fair few Japanese riders have got this kit on their bikes, very clever body work on them, takes a double take to realise it’s not the real thing.
