Personal preference for me is to use a thread chasers to clean the smuts out. I have found bolts to be sloppy when threaded into hole cleared with a tap.

Is a chaser able to extend thread length deeper into the hole, or is a tap necessary to do that?

When the 92027-1284 collar is removed from the shaft there is sufficient clearance for the clutch housing to be inserted at an angle into the case.




Is this not the case with other motors?

No. They just chase/clear threads. If new are needed you need a tap. Flat bottoming type on blind holes

I've tried but no go. I'd be careful not to thread the studs in too far. I'd test with the barrels and head to be sure you'll have enough threads for the top hat nuts.

On the Z/Kz up to 1980 the center of the clutch is integral and no way to tip it in behind the case. Clutch hub must be installed before cases are mated. Good to find that is different on the “J”

CS900K studs were installed in the 82 motor.  Each cylinder stud firmly seats against the hole bottom when tightened as specified.
