I was also looking at the bracing kit from Z1E. Damn! The pieces in the kit seem to be pretty simple. I'm thinking if you knew what the material spec's were (diameter and wall thickness) any machine shop could do it. The flat pieces could be done pretty easily also.
I'm not a welder, but I seem to remember something about the need to anneal the 4130 after welding, to prevent cracking. So, what would mild steel do for us? Sure would be easier to work with, I think.
Are there any kits offered for the swingarm? I've seen some pretty cool and clever mods done on members bikes, but wonder if there's one on the shelf somewhere. I'll stop rambling now. . . . Ride safe, Steve

Thanks, that also answered my next question about whether you would need a frame jig while welding all this to keep everything straight

cant see the point in useing cr-mo, frame is just high carbon steel and you would have to tig if useing cr-mo.
mild would be a lot cheaper and only a small wieght differance plus you could mig it.

forever tweeking aircooled engines, well it is my job

Cro-mo is gonna do nothing except be a pain to work with when welding to mild steel....which is what these frames typically tend to be....mild steel ERW tube. Yeah, you have to anneal cro-mo after welding to release the stress from the steel or it will crack near the weld.

Looking at some of the pics of the bracing done in the japanese PDF's it appears that they are using something like 12-14gauge sheet for the corner braces, and .065 wall tubing for the others structural braces. I can't imagine needing anything any thicker.

"if"cro-mo is mig welded it needs to be annealed afterwards.if it is tig welded there is no need to anneal after.cro-mo is no harder to machine or weld than mild steel."if" the material size is the same, the weight is the same aswell no matter cro-mo or mild steel.1018 dom(drawn over mandrel)is what alot of motorsports chassis and cages and whatnot are built from.
i use 4130cro-mo for everything,but i keep it around.

Sadly Kosman may show this stuff, but they don't have any and don't want to make any more... neither do they care.

We have an open purchase order with them with 15 kits still owed to us - after 18 months of chasing them we've finally given up on them. They reneged on their word many times...

That blows...
I have to admit that I had checked with them on my outboard bearing support plate (kit) this summer as I knew the wifey was going to drop a bit of coin on me for my birthday last month. I called Kosman at the start of summer and they indicated that they had just run out of J/GPz support plate kits but that they would be making another run and be re-stocked by October. The kid I talked to was named Miguel, seemed really nice and somewhat knowledgable. I called back in October and somehow managed to "just miss" Miguel three days in a row and on my final call I told the kind lady (I think Sandy's wife???) "why" I was calling and she said that she'd tell Sandy. A couple days went by so I gave up and ordered a D&G kit that was less expensive, in stock, and on it's way asap...also got a lot of free info from the guy who makes 'em; don't remember his name, but he was laid-back and way easy to get along with...KNEW his Kaw stuff inside and out. Sorry I can't remember that guy's name but he's got me for a customer. Maybe he can handle this frame-brace kit? I'd jump in for one if he needed a minimum.
