Here is the stock length unit from american classix - it's going for $695 and looks pretty good:
Klasmo - Very pretty arm, but it is box steel... hence the lower price. I can't help to start the realization that we spend way to much on what is still an old bike, but if I'm
doing it... Aluminum :woohoo:

The good: they were all dirt cheap.
The bad: at least one of the arms widens-out too abruptly to fit w/o modifying something. Meaning: at the frame/arm pivot although the arm is narrow enough to fit as the arm goes back to the rear axle it widens out at such a drastic angle that it contacts the frame...we'll see, eh?
Anywho, just a couple more '2 cents' for the collective coffer.

...I'm going with a stock late-model sport bike swing-arm and I've got a machinist/welder (with mad skills) who is going to fit and brace it. ...

Very good idea. I often thought about that too. I've seen a lot of conversions, with a Kaw ZRX rear end for example, and they work great. That way you don't have to worry about the rear wheel spacers, brake set up, or anything. It all fits perfectly already. If I knew someone to machine the pivot area I would have gone that route too.
Now, on the other hand, I had great luck with a V&H swingarm in the early 90's. I have come to find out since that they were really CalFab arms. I bought a 3" longer aluminum arm brand new and it was 100% bolt on. Every little part from my stock set up worked - chain guard, rear axle and adjusters, rear brake set up, etc... I only had to add a longer chain. It would take about a 150mm wide tire, but that was about it.
That's where the JMC arm would be nice - no real mods necessary. But, you're going to pay more for that compared to converting a newer sportbike set up. Either way, the end result will be awesome!

hahahahahahahahah.... You kill me man! :laugh:engrish?i tought you was canadish!
Question, has anyone truly tried designing/fabricating their own swingarm?
And I don't mean some half ass redneck revision...
Hmmm, I wonder how hard that would truly be....
Me thing the pivot tube would be the most difficult getting true & on the money... Not sure whats on the inside....
Again hmmm, may need to investigate....

At first glance, I thought to myself, what a biatch that must be to change the chain for it goes through the swing arm tubing then in looking at it closer (top of rear sprocket) you can see the master clip, not a rivet type master link.
Whew....
