He said .1", Sounds like its either .095" wall thickness, which is standard in NA, or its 2.5mm, standard in the rest of the world.

You're right. I didn't see the period. I guess my eyes are going. Thank you.

I didn't get too much done today. Late nights watching the Olympics and long days at work then play time with my girls leave me without much energy. I did manage to drill a hole in one of the 2x3 tubes to use as a stand off with the drag link mounting bolt on the swingarm. I still need to work something up to not only hold the axle end of the swinger, but to be able to make precise lateral adjustments to fine tune the alignment. Here is a shot of the back end with the SSSA sitting behind the frame (I know it's not lined up yet :side: )

But this view is much more appealing! You know, I think I just might be able to pull this off after all :woohoo: Anyone know where I can get a good deal on a used 06 up Speed Triple rear wheel? The ones on Ebay are listed for more than the swingarm cost me

Don't know if you're aware of this or not.

Very common for the steering head to be off center as much as 5mm. Might want to look into that first before you drive yourself nuts trying to align wheels and frame centerline.

If you shoot a lazer line from center of steering head down the center of the top frame tube, you're probably going to find it doesn't hit the center of the sub frame dead nuts center between the two bolt holes that mount the tail section at the very back of that loop section.

Anyway, have a look at that before you get too far into the mods.

Nice project BTW

Hi Larry, thanks for stopping by my project. I had read about the head being off, but I though it was more prevailant in the earlier Z bikes. I had planned on a laser to check a few things- this just gives me another item to check. Thanks for the heads up Mr. C.
;) luckily I'm a little ways off from lining things up, there is still a lot of work left on the jig supports. Any other heads up regarding this project is greatly appreciated!

Looking good! Have you tried following the Triumph forums yet? Usually those guys will give their buds the first shot at spares before they sell to ebay or CL. I know that I was frustrated finding parts for my zx-10r until I started following the classified section at zx-10r.net. I'm going to the wreckers tomorrow to look for a 4 into 1 header etc. I'll keep my eyes peeled for your wheel. I'm willing to help you out if I find something.

Thanks for the kudos Josh - thats a great idea about the Triumph forum, I'll have to check it out. And definately keep your eyes peeled at the salvage yard, Speed Triple parts are fewer and further between than the big 4. Are you looking for a header for your KZ? You have piqued my curiosity as I have been wondering what late model exhaust might be made to fit the KZ with minimal mods.

I'm def. looking for a header for the KZ. Actually two headers. First would be a typical stock replacement for a KZ. Second is a more modern, stainless header that can be adapted. I wish that I had a TIG welder and a pile of titanium tubes. The stock exhaust on the zx-10r is all ti and it is SEXXY! I like working with ti at the shop b/c everyone is scared of it! I just wish that I had the duckets to fabricate with it.

Alright guys, I've made a bit of progress this weekend. I got the frame centered in the jig and cut out the bottom rear engine mount/center stand mount-

Then I welded braces to the front cradle jig to lock the frame in place at the lower forward engine mount. If I didn't do this, spreading the frame at the bottom would have been levered at the factory down tube brace, something I did not want to have happen. After locking in the frame at the factory width at the front of the cradle, I welded in stops at the rear. Not so much to precent overtravel while spreading, but to control how much is spread on each side. This worked marginally well as I'll point out later. I brought out the big guns to spread the frame: a Harbor Freight port-a-power. I don't usually have much luck with H.F. hydraulic products, but this one has lasted quite a while :)

I dropped a 1 1/4" square tube brace in to keep the frame at the proper width for now, and slipped the swingarm between the frame rails. HA! :woohoo: Will wonders never cease
