Master Cylinder Piston - Kawasaki - KZ750 KZ650 KZ550 KH400 KZ400 KZ1000-A2
43020-1026
OEM: 43020-1026
According to Kawasaki parts, that p/n is for an A1. The A2-A4 needs p/n 43020-1027

I know, i keep running into this. It's VERY frustrating, but I guess this is the fun part of restoring. The treasure hunt for parts.

From Z1...This is my first experience with them, but seeing the lengths they gone to for someone that hasn't ever ordered from them I will be ordering parts from them the future.
"Hi Robert,
So it does appear that our listing was wrong and has been corrected. The 43020-1026 fits only 1980 kz550 which has the trapezoidal shaped reservoir and was on many other early models.
It looks like the 43020-1027 is for the later 550’s having the long rectangular reservoir.
The 1027 has been discontinued from Kawasaki and looks to be hard to find. I checked ebay and several of our resources with no luck. Is the 1026 one of the ones you have tried? It does measure ½” in diameter but I suspect the length is wrong. I will continue to work on this but unfortunately right now I don’t have a solution."
So the hunt continues....

Ok so a rebuild is out of the question, that is unless someone has a warehouse full of NOS Kawi parts.
So the hunt is on for a universal master cylinder, so a few questions.
I know i need to match the stock piston size (1/2" or 12.7mm), resevoir orientation (flat), banjo bolt size (10x1.25mm), mirror socket, and Handle bar size (7/8")
But what about:
resevoir capacity
piston throw / lever throw
matching the stock lever
Thanks,

here are the ones i'm looking at:
cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/FR-BRAKE-MASTER-...fPartsQ5fAccessories
They list this one as fitting "my bike" but the piston is 14mm where as mine is 1/2" (12.7mm), they also say its for a dual disc setup where as mine is single disc. I assume the piston size is the difference.
Here is the one that "matches" my specs, best i can tell. I was just worried about the resevoir and throw not being larger enough to fully engage the brake.
cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/FRONT-BRAKE-MAST...&hash=item19c59614e5
same with this one
cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/FR-BRAKE-MASTER-...&hash=item1c1bdf32ae
I hate trying to buy parts on the internet, i really do like physically comparing things. This is especially difficult as this is all NEW territory to me, as far as motorcycles are concerned.
Thanks for the response!

Have you looked and seen that the rebuild kit 43020-1027 from KAW is NLA, but has this list of bikes that it fits? Maybe you can search for a kit this way from another model?
