Need a Better Seating Position on my LTD 1000

I just bought a bone stock 81 LTD 1000 and would like some of your ideas on a better bar and seat combo that will let me stretch out and have some more room and freedom on the bike. I'm 5'11" and the stock setup sucks for anything other than in town work. Will a standard type seat fit my frame? Thanks in advance, this site is fantastic:)

Most seats won't interchange from model type to model type (different pans). Since you a re 5'11" and have the need to stretch out on a 1000 that is in itself a little different, usually that is the 6'+ guys with 34"+ inseams complaint. What is your inseam? Maybe you could post a photo of you in the riding position on the bike?

Taking the seat and having an upholsterer re-do it so there is more height where you sit might help, just be sure as this isn't cheap and can cost even more to change.

I'm 6'2" and the longest ride I've taken my bike for is 100 miles straight for the same reason. I'm gong to fab some forward controls for mine and get a touring seat. I also want to drop my rear end by 2 or 3 inches.
If you're good at fab work, you can make just about anything you want work. ;)

:) Touche Jim!
I should mention that I've never really tried to do much motorcycle fab work, so I'll be asking lots of questions on here myself. But Saggs, if you are good at it, then pretty much any seat you want, you can get. The people on this forum are amazing, and I'm certain they can, if not tell you step by step how to do it, point you in the direction of someone who can, get you riding comfortable on your bike.

I made an ELR seat for an LTD, only to find I followed the same lines as the LTD to close... didn't move the hump back far enough.

I did another ELR style and moved the hump and it works well. Here is the thread

Good ideas.. I like Martins thought on the bar change first. My wife says I look like a little kid on the thing b/c the riding style is kinda scrunched up w/ the knees up high. I may have to change the front m/c for sure. I had thought of reworking the frame rails to allow for a more standard seat but then wasnt sure if sidcovers would fit right? I've been restoring a 56 bug for the last five years so fabbing is not a problem. I'll post some photos- thx

I'm 6'5 with a 36" inseam. I have the stock, flat KZ seat, I really like this as I can slide up or back to suit my comfort. I do a lot of riding at 60+ mph and found that I was leaning forward quite a bit so the wind would lift my torso and take much of the weight off my hands so I installed a Superbike handlebar- I really like this set up. Also, when I'm cursing on the freeway, I'll usually put my feet back on the passenger footpegs for a more comfortable position.

I used to own a FJ1200 and an old CB750. Lately it's been off road motorcycles. I'm not one for the harley type riding position. I figured I could adapt this bike to suit my style.

Mtbspeedfreak- is your bike an LTD that you put the flat seat on? I did ride a 650 sr and liked that position.
