HELP JUST BROKE..... was created by jdbusch
ok so i was trying to remove my rear shocks and the acorn nut just twisted the stud apart.

havent removed shock yet how (once i pop the shock off) do i get that upper shock stud outta the frame?

is it threaded? Welded? all i can see is that it dosent go all the way through the frame.
can i use a regular grade 8 bolt?

damn i cant win!

I believe the stud is welded to the frame. I'd think if you can get a drill in this tight space & drill out the weld, a new bolt could be welded in to replace it. If it were me, I'd be using a Cobalt drill bit, as the weld might be difficult to drill out.

You might have to drill from the outside due to space restrictions. If possible. use a grinder to make the place to be drilled as flat as possible, otherwise the drill bit may go off center.

Take a good center punch & hammer to make a dimple so the bit won't wander, and use some cutting oil to keep the bit cool.

the thought of kicking it over and roasting marshmallows on it while i dance naked around it is really beginning to appeal to me.

but as i am trying to keep my composure and sanity. i think i will call a few shops around here and see if what they will charge to fix the stud issue.

thanx MFloks

Most "Broke" things can be repaired. It might take $$$$ for some situations, but I don't see your problem as being unfixable. Next time, use "Kroil" or "PB Blaster" on stuck fasteners....

Depending on the eyelet size, most bushings can be pressed out with a bench vice & small socket, but now you may have a problem, as the rubber will wear with no bushing.

ok now that i have vented and relaxed does anyone know a way to get the stud out?.. it looks as though it slips into a sleeve welded to the frame. is it pressed, welded, or just rusted?

Is this on a z9/1000 ?.
That shock mount is welded on solid and not a simple job to remove as it is welded front and back.
The common fix is to level the surface where the threaded portion sheared off and carefully drill up the center and tap M8 to take a bolt.
The bolt is only there to stop the shock from sliding off the mount and the mount will be just as strong as before.

On the z9/1000 etc that mount is all one piece, not a threaded sleeve with a stud in.

JD this is the route I would take. I am pretty sure you could do it without it being a complete nightmare

switch out the bushing on the shocks thats what i did when i put the other shocks on mine. the kz bushing was larger than the shocks i used

the eye is also alot wider. just realized that when i was looking. and i still have to change out the original stud cuz i broke off the threads. ive got a set of KAWI irhocks coming i was just impatient. but at least it broke before the parts came in so now i have a chance to fix it and have it ready to go instead of a temp job then doing it again lol
