the nut and thread dont hold much weight, they just keep the shock on the stud, so......
i think it will work. lol

i am sure leon or les could turn a rod down and rhread it for you. if you have the means to weld it in
I ground my studs off when I did my conversion so it wont be that tough to get it out.
You might try pm-ing one of those guys they have bikes there to get the measurments off of

(this is where extra shock mounts have been added to "laydown" the shocks.)
the same method could be used to repair a broken shock mount.
