You might have to drill from the outside due to space restrictions. If possible. use a grinder to make the place to be drilled as flat as possible, otherwise the drill bit may go off center.
Take a good center punch & hammer to make a dimple so the bit won't wander, and use some cutting oil to keep the bit cool.

That shock mount is welded on solid and not a simple job to remove as it is welded front and back.
The common fix is to level the surface where the threaded portion sheared off and carefully drill up the center and tap M8 to take a bolt.
The bolt is only there to stop the shock from sliding off the mount and the mount will be just as strong as before.

jdbusch wrote: ok now that i have vented and relaxed does anyone know a way to get the stud out?.. it looks as though it slips into a sleeve welded to the frame. is it pressed, welded, or just rusted?
On the z9/1000 etc that mount is all one piece, not a threaded sleeve with a stud in.

JD this is the route I would take. I am pretty sure you could do it without it being a complete nightmare
switch out the bushing on the shocks thats what i did when i put the other shocks on mine. the kz bushing was larger than the shocks i used
