Killing the handlebar buzz? was created by les holt
I've got a wicked handlebar vibration at around 3000-3500 that makes my hand numb right now, looking for some different ideas to isolate it.

After the first build ~ 1000 miles, I found my hands started going numb... Couldn't figure it out at first and it seemed to get worst each ride...

Believe it or not, turned out my rear exhaust support clamp to frame bolt came loose. Damn thing oscillated (frequency) and sent it through the frame... I was like you have to be kidding me but sure enough...

In a talk with Larry, mentioned he's witnessed that himself where with these engines power/torque, frame mounting bolt come loose, suspension mounts, foot peg mount etc... yup will travel to the bars.

I also tied the bar snake hard foam insert, helped a tad but naw... Biggest help turned out the weighted handle bar ends (mine weighted bar mirrors).

Good luck on finding the problem Les,

What OMR said and I went to foam grips instead of hard rubber grips

Be sure to double check all the engine mount bolts to make sure none are a little loose. Ed

you gave me that suggestion a year ago or so.
Snugging them up with a torque wrench finally was the ticket, just tightening them helped, wasn't until I torqued them its now (combined with oversize soft rubber grips) is all but gone

I've done multiple re torques of all the engine bolts and all the critical components and give a good visual shakedown of everything else but that's not to say I've overlooked something so I'll address that this evening. I thought about the weights in the end of the handle bars and may just go ahead and add them for added comfort but the foam grips just never did last long, they seemed to deteriorate pretty quickly. I also thought about putting a thin piece of rubber under the handlebar mounts.

Thanks for your input guys! I need to cure this before the relay.

i dont seem to have a buzz like that, but i do get a blurry right side mirror. i have ruber mounts under the bar rizers. stiill there with new mirrors. i may try wieghts.
some of the modern bikes have bar wieghts, so u may find some cheap on ebay. my 01 cbr600f4i has them, and my pals Honda 919, uses the same ones.

If not going with mirrored ends.... They make user adjustable weighted bar ends as well and could be accomplished on the fly...

Now that would be the ticket to success... ;)

If the buzz won't go away I wonder if you could load the inside of the end of the handle bars with lead shot (maybe in small plastic bags) like they use in dead-blow hammers to dampen the vibration? Ed

The MX guys use silicone caulk in thier MX bars to try to combat this. I like tacky grips so I have the buzz too, I use riding gloves with the fingers cut off and padding on the palm
