I'm tired of looking. :blink: Where can I find fork bushings for my '78 KZ1000?

Are you referring to the fiber ones on the inner forks, or perhaps other bits in the front forks?

Ok, I must have eaten a dumbass sammich. I just had these apart last year and couldn't remember if they had slider bushings like on other bikes I own. I must have been looking at a later model illustration that has upper bushings in the lower fork tubes(stanchion?). I think the '81 or '82 KZ1000J has bushings in the forks.
Just thinking of trying to get a tighter feel out of my stock forks.

If the stock forks feel loose you may want to change the fork oil. I have always used Bel-Ray 15w fork oil and it works well. Make sure you follow the instructions in the Kawasaki Service Manual regarding the correct oil level from the top of the inner fork tubes and whether the springs should be in or out when measuring the oil level. Ed

Thanks Ed. Yup, that's what I had them off for last year, It helped the ride, but still not where I want it yet.

If the ride isn't firm enough you may want to try a heavier weight Bel Ray. They make it in several heavier weights and it is ok to mix their different weight fork oils to fine tune the firmness to suit your riding style. Ed

Try a Fork Brace. I got one from Fast From The Past. They have a dimensional chart, so if a model isn't listed you can still find out if one will fit or not. They didn't list my model but they had an exact fit anyway. Huge difference, especially on gravel/ rougher roads.

Maybe some new springs as in Progressive's.

1980 KZ1000 LTD-B4(MK II engine) - Progressive suspension, MTC pistons, Dynojet Stage III, all wear items replaced, WFO paint scheme(1978), etc..

Past bikes- 2 1976 Kz900's, 5 1975-76 Honda CB750's, Honda 500 -4, Honda 250, Honda 125, Honda 100, Suzuki RM 250, Honda XL350, Kawasaki KLR 650, etc..

Motor Head, I've got a TeleFix brace on it. Forks just feel a little on the loose side. Nothing major, but not like I want them to feel. I'm used to how tight my ZRX forks are. Looking at doing a ZRX fork swap maybe. Keeping the stock spoke wheel and single disc up front. Love that look.
I'm thinking wear has more to do with it than the springs sbc1320. Are you running Progressives now?

Mine came with them, seem to work pretty good to me.Gonna pull them out and reuse them with my two new fork tubes. They are the only one's I have ever had in any of my bikes though.
