Center Stand Stop ? was created by kzdcw
I now have a Running 77' KZ1000A I've been working on for a while and have installed a Vance and Hines 4 into 1 header on it . Just recently picked up a a center stand and am going to install it today. The V&H came with a a separated bracket or strap which I believe is the stop for the center stand? Would you guys happen to know where you install this strap or stop?

It goes on the old muffler mount below the passenger foot rest. I hate it (too cheesy). I plan to do something else. Does anyone have something besides that stupid bracket?

From the diagrams at Partzilla it appears that the stock left side muffler bracket also serves as the center stand stop, so couldn't you just use that? Or are you wanting something less obtrusive?

Edit: #18024-038 is listed as the RH bracket, but I think that's an error as it's on the LH side & has a hole for the main stand damper. KZ1000 1977- 1980 A1-A4 Nos oem right Muffler Bracket

Here's a nice adjustable solution that a couple guys use. Ed

That setup ed posted wouldnt work for a 1000, 650s hold the center stand with pinch bolts, 1000s do not, would be possible to make an adjustable stop though a bent bracket bolted in with one of the mounting bolts may do the trick

You can get a spring tool made for replacing brakes in cars that works pretty good. Sorry don't know the exact name of it, but they are at any store in the brake tools area.
Another idea that works pretty good is get yourself a stack of pennys. Bend the spring enough to stick a penny between a couple of the windings, bend it another direction and add another penny. After a number of pennys are holding the spring extended enough to install, put the spring on and remove the pennys with pliers.

321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.

Interesting, you guys come up with the most interesting ideas! I'll try the penny method. If not, I'll install the spring first.

I tried to put the bike on the center stand without the spring installed just for grins. Couldn't even get the bike up and I'm definitely no weakling. Normally I just stand on the stand with my weight and lift it while it rolls backward. Never has a problem like this before. Must be a technique?
