Give Z1E a call and ask if they have a solution to this problem. Be nice and I'm sure they will go out of their way to help you. Jeff has always been very good at making this sort of stuff work.

......... or you might be able to use a splined lock washer like on later models (see 2001 KZ1000-P diagram below). The splined washer locks into the shaft because of the spline and then you bend part of the washer against the flat of the nut to prevent it from turning. Ed
This is what I have on my 750. See pic below from Z1 Enterprises. I had one with my 630 chain and sprockets and just put new 530 chain, sprockets, new nut and new lock washer on the bike 2 days ago. With 1 or even 2 sides of the washer bent over against the nut there is no way a loose nut can move let alone fall off. .... at least on the 750/4.
I dont know how the 1000s are supposed to be but am curious if a different setup is recommended or preferable on larger bikes
PS I dont know if the washer pictured will fit other bikes

I had to do this once, amazing how hard that sprocket is (probably surface hardened) I couldn't even scratch it with a drill. I was able to sink a hole into it using some diamond tipped cutters I got at Harbor Freight that go onto a Dremel. Took a while.....650ed wrote: You probably can drill the appropriate hole for the tab using a carbide drill bit
The easy way is to get one of the splined washers that you just flatten over against the edge of the shaft nut. That's what I ended up using.

He's right.80B4 wrote: The proper sprocket would be a 630. If you are going to do the conversion to a 530 chain and sprocket set you are going to have to do a little work.
