Looks like the rim has already been repaired? quite localised damage around the outside of the rim - to the eye.
What is there to lose? The uncertain risk of life endangering catastrophic failure and quite a sought after bike. I had a brake caliper mount fall apart from metal fatigue or casting imperfections years ago, these bits are highly stressed with a finite design life, which a lot of us are exceeding now.

Tyrell if it has a structural damage it's a total loss. Like cracks around the hub or on a spoke. But if it's only on the lip?
Back here we have shops that does that kind of repair and I have a feeling that I have seen the guy's on Wheeler dealers geting vintage car rims fixed in the UK.

IMO, I wouldn't take a chance with repairing it, It's not the same as having a car rim fail, as you still have 3 other wheels on the ground & you're in the car surrounded by 2000 lbs. of metal,...not as life threatening as a failed rim on a motorbike

A bit more googling, a finite element analysis of a spoked alloy car wheel is showing top numbers of 160 MPa pressures, or 23 000 lbs/inch, 1.6 tonnes /cm2 . Then put a few billion cycles, bumps and wheelies and the fatigue stresses get really high.
I read in an 80's UK bike mag that the z650 models had some alloy wheel failures, but never heard this anywhere else.

A good welder could to repair that to like-new. I had a bad crack in an alloy car wheel. The welder where I worked welded it up and somehow even matched the color of the alloy. After I was done grinding/sanding/polishing it, it was almost impossible to find the repaired area.
Make sure to hog out all of that J-B weld.

I'd personally find that damage very distracting and unnerving I'd be checking my wheel every time I hit a bump, but it must be repairable if you find the right person, there are even companies who can widen an alloy rim for you, so in comparison this would be a doddle.
I assume this is the rare 18" front rim? is it much different from the 18" Police front rim. It seems to me the Police rear 18"x 2.5" rim I just got t o pt on my KZ1000 is pretty much identical to the rim of my 1981 K1000J I had in the UK in 1982, which was pretty much a 1000R other than cosmetics - although I could be being misled by the intervening 33 years
