Question: GPz rearset pegs on 750E?

Looks like the footpegs are a direct bolt-on. True?
In addition it seems the following parts are needed:
- rear brake lever
- shift lever assembly (articulated)
- sprocket cover (or add pivot stud to existing cover)
Regarding the sprocket cover, can I add a threaded hole and add the pivot stud? Any suggestions about the viability of adding these pegs to my bike is appreciated.

At any rate, I'm all in on the swap. Ordered up pegs, brake lever, shift lever pivot stud, shift lever assembly, and even a sprocket cover with stud.
I'm scratching my head about that black cover with stud already attached (that's the one I bought). It's the early style cover. Kawasaki changed the shape for the '82 GPz model, which carried forward with the KZ750L model, and it's those are the models that had the rearset pegs. What model KZ used the old style cover but rearset pegs?

This is correct. The GPz and L model bikes have the pegs about 2" more rearward. Not a huge amount, but more rearward than the regular E and H bikes.
These bikes have a more rectangular looking covers though. Still trying to figure out what model bike had the early round style cover, in black, with the stud.

As to the covers, if they are factory black isn't that from a GPz? I don't have my cover, now I think about it I think I sold that and the gear shifter and linkage to someone wanting to do what you are doing.

You could even cut the head off and cross drill it to use some sort of pin or clip with a washer to keep it all in place, unless you don't want to alter your original.

I'm considering drilling my cover but concern about controlling the position and angle of the hole. Been scheming on how to assure the hole is parallel to the existing shift shaft hole; some sort of drill guide will have to be fabricated. At the end of day I bought that one black cover for $28 shipped though. At that price it's hard to justify messing around with my cover, although I still may.
And speaking of that cover, it's imprinted with only 5 gear positions so it can't be a 550 cover.

Those imprints always crack me up. My twisted mind envisions a new rider leaning over the left side of the bike trying to read them when shifting gears while riding. :woohoo: Ed

The attached picture shows a shifter from a GPZ550 added to a KZ750H (LTD) case. 750E case is the same.
The stud was removed from the 550 case and the 750 case was drilled and tapped (M8-1.0 I think, but not sure). I just center punched the location. location not critical as rod between stud and shift shaft is adjustable. I just used a drill press and hand held the case.
The "rear set" pegs are a set of passenger pegs from a 750B Twin located in the lower stud mount for the standard peg mount.
Stud unscrewed (nut on inside of frame boss) and the pegs screwed in. Spacer used to support bottomed out stud.
Good luck,
Jim

Cleaned up the brake lever and shift linkage and will post later today. Repainted the footpeg brackets too. Real happy with how everything turned out.
The engine cover from ebay needed a lot of clean up. Decided to just tap my old cover for the thread but screwed it up and the hole went in crooked. Real unhappy with myself because I made a drill jug and everything first. Oh well. Guess I'm going to have to polish the ebay cover after all.
