Sorry my bad, I read that he was going to extend the lower tubes and not the cartridge but Steve if you are going to lay out a few hundred bucks on lower tubes anyway take a look at the web site for the above mentioned extension kit, 270 usd and little or no fabrication time, not saying one method is better than the other but the upper extensions are less hassle.

I was looking at that kit.

So to be clear, longer stanchions and the extension on the end of the cartridge does the same thing as the cartridge extension with the outer tube extension? I'm hoping to stay away from extenders on the outer tubes. Just seems like lengthening the stanchion and cartridge would look cleaner and produce the same result yes? Or does that change my travel or overlap or whatever?

My thought is 04 FZR tubes are 43mm x 588mm stanchions to replace the 43mm x 540mm stanchions in 2008 r1 foks with the 50mm cartidge extender listed previously. Am I missing something or will that give me 50mm longer than stock r1 forks?

Also, thanks to everyone for your replies. Im trying to figure this out as I go, and you guys are indespensible.

Yes! the 44mm longer stanctions would allow a damper rod extension of up to 76mm (44 mm + 32 mm )
So you would get up tp 76mm longer forks .

Wait, why 44mm and 32mm?
putting 48mm longer stanchions means i can buy 75mm cartridge extenders? How (if at all) will this affect travel and overlap?

Can you draw it in crayon for me? Haha

as i do all my own machine work my stuff only cost sweat, materials and hardware :laugh:
here is my adjustable drop upper triple.

i would expect to pay $350.00 and up for a custom machined dropped upper triple.
sounds like you are well on your way with the yami mix and match legs.i am eager to see how it works for you.

Parts are cheap when your labors free!

Cognito moto will do custom drop triples with stem for $800. that's hard to beat. plus you can get the correct fork offset for your application.
