The arrows on the bottom of the fork clamps go forward.  The front nut is also tightened/torqued before the rear nut.

Exactly!  I see so many images of KZ bikes that have the clamps installed wrong even though the Kawasaki Service Manual and the Kawasaki Owners Manual are VERY clear about how to install the clamps.  I guess folks either don't bother reading the manuals or somehow don't believe the manuals are correct?  Ed

I checked my Z1A fork clamps,  they are the only Pre-KZ forks I have, no arrows! All the other forks I have are 1976 and newer.  I believe Marty is correct!  IDK if that counts as a "fact check" or not?

Good enough for me.

the manual states there is a front and a back, only determined once clamped down. If it’s on backwards the gap to the rear will be a wedge shape. If it’s installed correctly the rear gap will show both surfaces parallel. But there is nothing about an arrow.

Simon does drrrrawings!!!

There are no arrows on Z1 clamps.
To build on Mikaw's illustration, the flats on the clamp that meet the fork legs are two slightly different heights, or planes.  The taller side goes in front.  If you place a clamp on a flat surface with the flats facing down the difference in heights can be easily seen.

Slmjim, might be stretching it a little identifying them as Illustrations. But thank you. You guys have to remember Mike Meyers on SNL as simon in the bathtub doing drawings. Youall missed it.

Not to upset the apple cart here, but a lot of Z1 owners turned their forks around.

I have several restored bikes along with a 2006 Goldwing with a sidecar. My wife has a 2019 Suzuki DR 650 for on and off road.
