I'm running a 190 rear tire on a 5.5 rim and I have about a 1/8" - 1/4" clearance between the chain and rear tire.

I currently have a 180 tire on a 5.5 rim. I tried to do a 190/60 instead of a 190/55 but I just couldn't do either without cutting up the frame. SO I just went with a 180/55. I know that tires can vary quite a bit from manufacture, but some of the tires I was looking at I couldn't find anything. I eventually want to put a Shinko Stealth as this is the tire that all the drag racers use around here and I know it's a pretty sticky tire.
As far as a 6" rim when shopping for tires they all said 6 inches for a 200 and up and 5.5 for the 190 and down. I too like the idea of flatting out a tire for a bigger patch on the road (like a 190 on a 6 inch rim), but seating that bead is going to be a pain in the a$$.

all i had to do to my frame was heat it with a torch and give a few good wacks with a large hammer to flatten the frame where the chain was rubbing. oh and grind the foot peg bolt that extended thru to the inside of my frame. I'm running a dunlop sportmax 208, 190/55. this setup works fine on my bike.

Everyone-
Thanks for the tips. Mike-Since I have a nickel frame, I think I am going to go the route you did (180/55) on a 5.5 rim with a Shinko Stealth tire.
Now I just need a rear disk hub to start the project!!!
Anyone familiar with any aftermarket brands that have the correct axle diameter for a 74Z1900?
Thanks,
Warren

Mike-
It is a nickel plated frame. I will try and attach a picture. Since this is the case, I do not want to beat on the frame at this point. I have some more pics if you have an e-mail address.
Thanks,
Warren

Wireman-
Would you sell the caliper and disk with it? All I need is the hub. I am going to respoke it to a 17" aluminum rim. What price would you want? I am trying to get prices together right now. Thanks,
Warren
