12 digit VIN, NOT 13... I found it behind the headlight on a label if that's the correct location.

For the heck of it, here is the VIN as far as I can tell:
KZ750G - 005138

Looks like I'm going to have to go the Bonded Title route here in TX. I'm going to call either the DMV or PD tomorrow to see if they can do another lookup on my 12 digit vin (A little too late anyways). If anyone else runs into this issue, take a look at the following link to this procedure. It seems bothersome, but not too complicated.

There are agencies that will guide you through the process for a fee. I looked into this since the title to my bike had been "improperly signed". As in signed by someone who didn't get it transferred into his name. I got lucky and located the owner of record.

We had a member here who went by txfisherdude who went through the process with a bonded title agency. He claimed it was easy. Apparently he paid the agency about $100 + the normal fees if I remember correctly. I don't see him posting any more so he probably wouldn't answer a PM but you could try. He was also a member on Too Cool Fishing by the same user name. Not sure if you could find him there or not. I used to have his phone number but I'm not sure if I still do. If I find it I'll shoot you a pm.

Cool deal. Thanks for the insight. That would be great to talk to someone that has some experience with this. I think I'm going to start filling out the proper documentation to get the ball rolling. I'll update this thread as I go through the process to let y'all know how it's going.

Welcome aboard! Be sure to buy a Kawasaki Service Manual (FSM) for your bike; they are usually available on eBay - be sure to get one that covers your bike's exact year/model as there are differences between models. Owning one of these bike's without the FSM is like walking down a busy highway with a blindfold on. ;) Ed

The last I heard from Charlie was that his bike remained non-operational...he put considerable time and effort into resurrecting it and then decided to pull the head...where he discovered that one of the cylinders was nothing but rust. I visited him at his house and the motorcycle was looking very nice (but that was before he pulled the head).

I definitely need to get this title mess out of the way first before I get into it too deep. Scoot over cosmetics for me though. I'll get this thing up and running first like a champ and then after tear down I'll worry about paint, chrome, etc. I want to keep her as original as possible (not worried about a museum piece), but I do have my own color scheme in mind... black, tan, and Kawa green. Pin stripes are true to the bike from what I can see, but I think a little retro nonsense might be cool (no crazy patterns I promise). We'll see. Thanks for all the great replies.

Personally, as long the major rust in the tank is eliminated and it initially looks clean I wouldn't line the tank. Unless, it had issues with leaks or weak spots. When I did my tank I used WD40 immediately but still got some flash rust. There are products people here have used that that will clean it and keep it from flash rusting afterwards, such as evaporust. Others seem to have had good success using Oxalic acid or phosphoric acid to do the same thing. But I guess one thing I am not really sure about. And maybe others can chime in. I cleaned mine with white vinegar and developed some flash rust before use. Didn't worry about it. Ran it as is and have never had any problems. Seems like the fuel dissolves it away because it looks since I put in service. Didn't seem to effect the way the bike ran or effect (clog) the carbs in any way. So is flash rust really something to worry about? Would like to know.

Yeah that Jasco Metal Prep stuff is basically phosphoric acid to so it did have a visible conversion that looked very good and gray until the fuel went in. The metal inside has a lot of small pits and I'm not sure if that was from rust pitting or if that was the way the metal was fabricated. I'm used to smooth tanks. There are inline fuel filters that are functional and I cleaned up the petcock pretty good although I will have to replace that with an HD 13/16 petcock eventually. I don't think a little rust is bad since I have the filters, but I've never really had any real experience with a rusted out bike before. Geez, I wish I had a pic of the tank when I first got it though. It was freakin caked on there good. I was impressed when I used that Jasco stuff. I did try vinegar originally after using BB's, but honestly the rust was still so bad that the vinegar didn't work well (sat for a week before I decided to try something else). I should probably start posting in other threads about this now so I'll finish with that. I don't want to leave a bad impression with the moderators as I have much respect for this site and everyone that makes it possible.
