Me the the PO are in contact via Facebook, he is kin to my mother. He said he bought it new from House of Kawasaki here in Oklahoma, got it up to 180mph on the way home, said he never went over 80 after that. He didn't say much to why he had the motor swapped other that that the 903 is bored out and had a lot more get up. He told me the original motor should have been in the barn too, so I'm going to go look today. He said this 903 has less than 1k miles on it!

Back in the day, a popular hop-up overbore was 1013 or 1015, which was considered fairly conservative, and which left the cylinder sleeves thick enough to avoid other issues.CoxUSMC wrote: . . . the 903 is bored out . . . .

The 903 has a lighter crank. I bored mine out to 1015 in 78. Did a rebore on Z2 750 barrels in 87. There's more. Lunched a piston in 13 and picked some low mile 1015 barrels. The tranny main fork is beefier than the 903 so I put that in when I put in a low mile tranny I backcut myself. I installed a KZ 1000 shift spring because it has one more wind than the 903. Went Lisla rollers and new cam chain in 13 also.
The KZ 1000 crank was made heavier to "reduce vibration." Very little difference between the two until the J motors came out.

There's an article explaining this but I can't find it now. Here's something from another site.
