Saving a '81 KZ750-E

definitely knocked the ugly off.

Three coats are on. The temp readings inside my shop are 87 F, 15% humidity. Each coat flashed off really well in these conditions. As far as appearance goes, I am very happy with this paint. Whether or not it does well in operational heat, or just assembly handling, we will see. It won't be touched for at least 48 hours. The holding points of the stand will need touch up, but the top end will come off first. Each part still requires a final cleaning on the inside prior to assembly.

Just the right amount of highlights, imho...

Looking good! That finish will look good with the rest of the bodywork.

I am on the hunt for the two shift shaft seals that press into the chain cover. Partzilla shows them in the diagram as # 92049E, but they only list A thru D. Anyone have another source for these two press in seals? I did not have any success searching Z Enterprises, either. Thanks in advance!

No eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configurationMaybe not much help, but I got mine from CMS. They should also be in any engine oil seal kits (they are definitely in the SFK kit I got on eBay and I haven't had any leaks yet...)

After a thorough cleaning, I found the clutch cable bracket on the actuator is cracked. Looks like a weld repair is in order.

I believe you are looking for part number 92051-005. Different number than the ones the Kz900/1000 use!!!

Very common seal. Kawasaki used that seal on numerous models over the years.

Here is the repaired bracket. I usually don't post close ups of my welding (:dry: :laugh: :laugh: :laugh: ), but this one didn't come out too ugly.

I have been on the fence in regards to the ends of the cam cover. I was going to mask them from paint, then decided against it. As of now, I am leaning toward leaving the ends painted. We will see where I decide to go before final assembly.

As I continue to clean, prep, and paint parts my mind tends to wander. From seeing some recent conversations on spark plugs it got me thinking. I am upping the compression on my motor from the stock 9:1 to 10.5:1. I also installed the Dynojet stage 3 kit, and will be using pod filters. A Delkovic 4 into 1 header. From what I have been reading/researching, it sounds like I should use a colder than stock plug. The manual calls for a NGK B8ES for my bike. Should I break in the motor using one step colder? Opinions?
