Saving a '81 KZ750-E

Congratulations! You did a wonderful job of restoring and sharing your progress and "learning experiences" along the way!
You saved one that many would have walked away from and built a bike that makes many envious.(myself included!)

I was really happy to browse through this thread today and see that you got her running. A long road but well worth it!

Spent the last several weeks trying to finish up the wiring and hand controls.  I posted more details in the electrical forum.  I am stuck.  I cut my hair short so I couldn't pull any more out.  Trying to wire up repop hand controls for a '73 - '77 Z1/KZ900 into an '81 KZ750e2 harness.  I cannot get the turn signals or horn to work. 

Are you sure the horn works?  

Are you sure the turn signal flasher works?

Is there a test with a volt/ohm meter to ensure it is functional, or replacing it is the only way?  The factory wiring diagram does not show the internal circuits for both the hazard flasher and the turn signal flasher.

I have not tested it, no.  Everything was operational when it was parked.  So the functionality of the horn was an assumption on my part.

Not that I know of. You could probe the connectors on the power side of the relay to see if battery voltage is getting to the relay and if it is also exiting the relay. The key will need to be on and the flasher switch engaged. The volt meter will need to be grounded to the frame or engine.
The relay needs to see a certain amount of resistance on the other side, but if you are using factory style bulbs, you should be ok there. If there is too much resistance on that side, the bulbs should be blinking like crazy.

The horn may have rusted internally.

Horns are funny in that a little tweaking of the adjustment screw can make them go from dead to full scream.  For sanity's sake you might want to jump wires from the battery to the horn to see if it still works.
